Many visitors who come to Las Vegas don’t venture past the Strip, and it’s not hard to see why: there’s an almost endless array of entertainment on tap. But if you do find the time to see what lies beyond this glittering, four-mile stretch, it’s well worth doing so. From a burgeoning Arts District to the wild Western beauty of Red Rock Canyon, Vegas offers up plenty of less conventional charms.

The Vegas art scene
Arts and culture may not be the first association that many visitors have with Las Vegas, but that’s changing. For starters, there’s 18b, an 18-block Arts District in Downtown that’s full of creative studios, coworking spaces, and galleries. Then there are quirky institutions like the Neon Museum of Las Vegas and events like the First Friday festival. The city’s burgeoning local arts scene is an aesthetically pleasing must-see.
Las Vegas EDM
Obsessed with all things EDM? Even if you’re new to the genre (it stands for ‘electronic dance music,’ for the uninitiated), there are few better places in the world to get acquainted than Las Vegas. Thanks in part to the city’s many lavish nightclubs, and the internationally renowned DJs who frequent them (think artists the likes of Tiësto, Steve Aoki, and Zedd), Vegas is the perfect place to let loose while you wait for the drop.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
Given Sin City’s bewitching urban charms, it’s easy to forget that Vegas is just a short drive away from some of the most stunning scenery in the American West. One favourite local getaway is Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, located just a few miles west of town. With its hiking trails, wildlife viewing opportunities, and spectacular 900-metre rock formations, it’s a great place to recharge for a few hours before diving back into the neon-lit whirlwind.
Extreme sports experiences
Las Vegas is a city of extremes, and that extends to its sporting experiences. Whether you want to give indoor sky diving a whirl, fly through the air on a speeding zip line, experience a world-record breaking free-fall at the SkyJump, or even race a Ferrari or Lamborghini around a racetrack, there are plenty of ways to keep the adrenaline pumping.
Vegas weddings
The city’s reputation for uncommon nuptials precedes it — after all, where else in the world can you be married by an Elvis impersonator, tie the knot on an imitation pirate ship, or attend a drive-through wedding ceremony? Even if you don’t fancy joining the 10,000 couples who wed in Las Vegas each month, it’s well worth swinging by quirky matrimonial landmarks like the Graceland Wedding Chapel.
