Federal law forbids the carriage of hazardous materials aboard the aircraft, in your luggage, or on your person. A violation can result in five years imprisonment and penalties of $250,000 USD or more (49 U.S.C. 5124). Hazardous materials include explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidizers, poisons, corrosives, and radioactive materials.

Firearms in checked baggage must be declared and unloaded. Passengers failing to declare firearms or transporting loaded firearms are subject to a civil penalty of up to $10,000. Passengers with checked baggage may be asked to present identification and/or permit inspection of their checked baggage. Passengers refusing to present identification and/or permit checked baggage inspection may not be transported.
