Our visits to Ulusaba are always special, but this visit was extra special. My brothers and their wives were visiting us and as I missed one 60th birthday due to COVID and my younger brother tun 60 before coming to SA we decide to treat them to two nights at Ulusaba to celebrate. As usual the welcome and formalities at the Reception were done while having our welcome Bucks Fizz. As usual Peter and John were there to meet us and take us down to the Safari lodge. Where Godfrey and his team were there to continue the welcome. They took our visitors for a tour of the lodge, while we settled in at the bar! Then off to our rooms to get ready for the afternoon drive. We were back in our favorite room on the dry riverbed. Since our last stay here the walkway had been redone and it is a lot easier to get too. Great improvement. Still have to go over the swing bridge, so fun after a few drinks!! The welcome note from Godfrey was slightly different this time and we are now official members of the Ulusaba family. Which made the visit special as it was the first holiday with my my brothers since we were kids. Thank You All!!!!! Great food and an excellent wine list is always present here . Breakfasts after a game drive with a wide selection of both hat and cold. Sitting on the deck often the game keeps passing by. The evening meals are 5 star and always paired with an excellent bottle of wine. Drinks in the bar is always a highlight where you can chat with other guests about the drives and sip away on some great cocktails. The game drives with Peter and John were nothing short of awesome as usual. The Big 5, Giraffe, Hyena, Zebra, Hippo and the numerous Buck species. The Rhino sighting was brief, with two very nervous Rhino quickly disappearing into the bush. The Elephant Herd was awesome as usual but they were on the move feeding and not a lot of interaction. Buffalo was confined to a couple of Dugga Boys hiding in the bush. The big cats of course were everywhere with numerous Lion and Leopard sightings. Two Lionesses with very young cubs feeding and playing on the bank of a dry river bed. Two big Males forming a roadblock as we returned to camp one evening. A female Leopard with her older cub, who was excelling in the art of posing for the cameras. A female Leopard early one morning doing her best to show all her skills at climbing trees and looking out for prey. An endless photo opportunity. The the highlight of the two days were 3 sightings of a Wild Dog Pack with pups. So another great time watching the youngsters cavorting around, while the adults rested in the shade. At all our sightings a big thanks needs to go to Peter who has the ability to position the vehicle in just the right place for some great pictures. Thanks, you and John make an awesome team. Having been on over 30 safari dives at Ulusaba, they never fail to deliver. Yes we've seen The Big 5 on all our visits, but there is always one sighting that stands out on each drive. The last two days at Ulusaba did not disappoint. Lastly a big thanks you to Godfrey and his team for the wonderful evening dinner to celebrate the 60th Birthdays, it was greatly appreciated by all of us. Now looking forward to our next visit? We have been lucky enough to stay here several times. It is an amazing lodge with wonderful staff and, in my opinion, cannot be bettered. It is a happy, welcoming place in a great location for animal viewing. There is a fantastic tree house equipped with comfy seating, a little kitchen with a fridge containing cold drinks and a toilet. The tree house looks over a dam where all types of animals come to drink or play in the water (elephants, hippo, giraffes, buffalo, nyala etc) and there is an abundance of bird life. The tree house is approximately a 10 minute walk from the main lodge across two wooden swing bridges and a wooden walkway and is available for everyone to use. Our ranger, Vincent, and tracker, Donald, were wonderful and we saw all the big 5 (some many times) plus over 100 different varieties of birds within a 5 night stay. The food is great and very plentiful and my husband’s gluten free requirement was catered for extremely well. All the staff is wonderful but special mention to the following for being so kind and caring- Vickery, Shelbeigh, Genene, Matt, Patience, Zodwa, Brineth, Ruel and Bongi (as well as Vincent and Donald, previously mentioned). We have visited two other safari lodges in South Africa in Madikwe and Ngala and both pale into insignificance compared to Ulusaba. It truly is ‘heaven on earth’ in our opinion. Read less

Our tracker Donald again so knowledgeable, he makes you feel so welcome with a smile for every occasion (spot on). Every drive we went on there was something new, wildlife, bird life or terrain. We would not hesitate to give a five star + rating the food is also excellent. Will definitely be back. Read less

What an amazing experience, from the minute we arrived we were greeted by Mike one of the safari guides/driver and John our tracker and made to feel welcome. A home away from home. The game drives were awesome and the driving superb. The guides were very respectful of the animals, so we never had more than two jeeps at one sighting which was really important for us. The lodge is beautiful, great views to watch the hippos and a fun rope bridge across the dry riverbed each day between our room and the main lodge. The days consisted of an early rise and snacks, morning game drive and sunrise drinks, lunch (for those with healthy appetites) and afternoon /evening game drives around 4:30pm. The front of house team lead by Matt did a great job and made a special effort for our anniversary. We were lucky to have a fantastic jeep with just my husband and I and some great new friends from the USA we had such a laugh. Overall I could not recommend this lodge highly enough we shed a tear when we had to leave. Shout out to Mike and John, you’re the best. Read less
