The hotel

Occupying centre stage on the largest private beach in Ocho Rios, the Moon Palace Jamaica promises as many sensational sea views as classic Palace Resort touches which is why this is one of the hottest properties in the Caribbean. Consisting of 680 guest rooms, contained within two shimmering towers, you'll be totally spoiled for choice and with six restaurants and six bars to choose from, you certainly won't be left wanting when it comes to a warm welcome. World-class dining options and a tempting gourmet corridor provide a taste of things to come with the excellent Piano Bar offering a world of wine which has been expertly critiqued for your own deliberation. As most guest rooms have fabulous ocean views, fully stocked mini-bars and 24-hour room service, you may prefer to relax in private. Of course, that's not where the fun stops and if you're travelling with kids, they'll be itching to get out of the room to their own pool, or grab a console in the wired teens' lounge - there's plenty of family options to keep your brood happy and active all day long. With four other swimming pools, excellent spa facilities and loads of daily activities, there's never a dull moment and with the stunning Dunn's River Falls just 15-minutes away, getting out and experiencing the very best of Jamaica doesn't get any better than this.

Now that we are back home it’s safe to say I am homesick to go back!!! 🩷🌸🇯🇲 If there was one thing I could change (bc I know when it comes to reviews it’s good to say the positives as well as the negatives, it would be that the drive from the airport was longer than I expected *but* that’s fully on me for not realizing that beforehand. Honestly, it wasn’t until a friend asked me how long the drive is, that I even looked into it 😳…oops…amateur vacation booker here!! I would say it’s BEYOND worth the drive….even our 3 kids, (ages 13,14 & 16…who at first were like “why did you chose a place that’s far from the airport?”…lol..suddenly were very happy that I did. I said to them, so what’s the alternative….?….find somewhere super close just bc it’s close and then we get there fast and you complain/wish we went somewhere nicer!?…..(this is our first time having come to Jamaica so I really don’t know what hotels are close to the airport and how they would compare…all I know is, every time I saw a picture of a resort that caught my eye it was Moon Palace, Jamaica 😃). So many other amazing staff members to mention….This review length is getting the better of me so I’ll wrap it up but for anyone who may not see the pics I attached—I want to make sure my shoutout to Slim Shady from Pier 8 gets noticed. What an amazing guy. Legendary! Moon Palace, take care of him!!! He’s a gem. Read less

Our family of 4 were there Jan.30 - Feb.6 2025. This resort is approx. hour and 45 minutes from Sangster Montego Bay Airport which was further then we anticipated. Its situated on the eastern side of the bay where the cruise ships dock. We saw 5 different ships during our stay. Its an easy walk to the market and shops as its not even a 5 minute walk outside the resort ground. This is our 3rd time in Jamaica and had always enjoyed Jamaica, with the friendly faces and not too pushy vendors. This however is probably our least favorite resort. My main factor is the noise. There was always loud music going off and at a couple of occasions, seems like one noise was trying to beat another noise from another area! Also in the Asia restaurant, where they combined the 2 into one area. It seems like a recording studio as the loudness seem to bounce off the walls. We had issues with the billing. As my wife identified discrepancy in numbers, which took till our last day to resolve. Also, having told " it was not our problem " by them is not a proper way to address their mistake! So I would recommend people to look at invoice especially doing excursions with the hotel. With the "credits" given by the hotel, its easy to loose sight on your spending. The beach is relatively small for the size of the resort but you can walk further down past the property. The resort does have its perks. The pier to its Dolphin Cove is within the grounds. Highly recommended! Marcia, the marine specialist that took our group of 8 was fantastic. Also on the pier, you can board the catamaran ( we did not partake), and snorkeling tour boat ( disappointing, probably based on the weather we had ). I'm a big breakfast guy and Norman at the omelet/egg station was great. We tried their Wave Rider, was really fun to learn. My son really enjoyed it and finally caught on the surfing board near the end of our trip. There was a huge option of food there to really mention but am a big fan of the Jerk Hut and the churro cart that went around the pools. Had a deep massage at the Awe Spa that was a great experience. Thanks Hope! Again, I cannot thank enough with most of the staff there, very friendly and personable. My son wants me to mention the 2 young guys that gave him advise on the Wave Rider! I would give a better review but they really need to address the issues I highlighted. Read less

After reading some many terrible reviews, I was nervous about what we’d encounter. I’m here to say we were pleasantly surprised! I think the issue is that MPJ is compared to MP Cancun and they are very different cultures and destinations. Service: Everyone was super nice with a warm big smile and always took the time to chat. No concerns at all with service. Drink service around the pool was spectacular! Check-in: This was hands down the worst part. It took over 90 minutes. The issue isn’t just a long line. It’s their process. You are asked to key in lots of information on a tablet that they should already have such as your email address. Then they manually key in your cc number. Not sure why they don’t have the technology to swipe it. I sense that many people do not get the room type or location they want because I could tell the line was also being held up with people complaining and negotiating with the front desk staff. Some parties were at the desk for 30+ minutes. The positive is that we held the line with one adult and everyone else could walk around and grab snacks and food. Noise: Yes, it is noisy at night. Our room was 21504 and 21502 (building 2, 15th floor). We faced the ocean and pools. Our friends were across the hall and had a partial ocean view and faced the town of Ocho Rios. That side seemed to be louder, but our side was loud as well. The thumping music goes well into the night from both the resort and the town. I knew this in advance and brought a white noise machine and ear plugs. It didn’t keep me awake, but it wasn’t relaxing either. Room: We booked the Two Bedroom Family Room and loved it. Kids room came with stepstool, kid-sized robes and slippers, and an Xbox (check out games at front desk). The rooms are much smaller than most all inclusives and do not have bathtubs. Because we had two rooms we were fine. Housekeeping and mini-bar service (including snacks) was consistently great! Food: The food was overall good. They had lobster and fancy desserts at the buffet for NYE. They were strict on the restaurant reservations which we could not get for the first two nights. We tried approaching restaurants when they opened and were practically empty but were told they were fully booked. That didn’t make any sense as we looked at a restaurant of open tables. We loved the fresh sushi and food court style food (paninis, pizza, crepes from coffee shop). The wood-fired pizza was the best but you had to be standing there when one came out as it went very quickly. It takes 15 minutes to wood fire 1-2 pizzas at a time so while delicious seems like a silly way to try to feed a crowd on the beach. They didn’t have much fresh fruit which was a surprise for a Caribbean island. Either fresh cut coconuts, popsicles, ice cream cart, or a churro cart came out daily around the pool. Room service was also reliable and good. Ocean: Beautiful clear water and soft sand. Shallow for swimming was great for kids. There was an inflatable obstacle course for free run by MP and then one farther down the public beach for $20. Lots of activities to do straight from beach. Alcohol: We all found something we could happily drink, but a lot of the cocktails were meh. No fresh fruit garnishes. Restaurants had specialty cocktails, but they tasted just like everything else. Best martini was from the piano bar. Activities/Entertainment: Kids loved the Wired Lounge, playing pool volleyball, and the free water sports such as the water bikes, paddleboards, and paddleboats. They’ll even take you out sailing at no charge. We also used credits to do the water hoverboard, glass bottom boat (nice ride, but didn’t see much), and sunset catamaran boat trip (booze cruise with music and swimming). We were bummed that the Flow Rider was broken all week. Great live music day and night. Shows were meh and on par with other AI resorts. Ocho Rios has amazing excursions located so close to the resort. Blue Hole and Konoko Falls were highlights! On NYE they had fireworks. Spa: The spa was an unexpected highlight! Wow! The hydrotherapy was over the top amazing. We were thankful to have booked with a member because that afforded us complimentary hydrotherapy visits, two manicures, two pedicures, and two back massages. Don’t miss out on the spa. Read less
