The hotel

Nothing less than idyllic, Cape Panwa offers a quiet retreat in the southeast corner of this popular island. Excellent service, stylish rooms and world-class amenities can all be enjoyed as well as a secluded beach for hotel guests only. All suites and villas boast plenty of space and light with airy décor. There’s a variety to choose from, ideal for couples, families or groups of friends. Activities at the Cape Panwa abound – although if you want to do nothing more than laze by one of the 2 pools, that’s absolutely fine! For moments when you’re feeling more active, there are water sports galore, including canoes and stand-up paddle boards. As well as sporting activities, there are cultural activities and a spa in which to feel truly pampered. Children are welcomed with open arms and there’s plenty for them to do too, allowing parents time out to soak up the sun. Dining is plentiful at the Panwa, there are several superb restaurants, serving dishes from around the globe. There are also four bars to unwind in at the end of the day, sipping on a handcrafted cocktail perhaps whilst listening to a live band at The Light House or the swell of the sea at Bamboo Bar.

Don't be fooled with the photo on the website -- its a restaurant on the property, not the lobby. This hotel markets itself as a 5-star property -- in reality it's at best, a 3 star hotel. The owners have clearly gone for the quantity of visitors (vs quality of service and maintenance). The lobby is beaten up, and crammed with stored luggage. The restaurant looks cheap and is reflected in the food quality. The pool is embarrassingly crowded. The suites are decent and have good views, but the villas are a disaster -- just in a terrible condition. We upgraded to the Panwa House , which must have been a beautiful house at some point -- again the lack of care is evident. The only saving grace is the beach which is pristine with white sand -- again too many people spoil the peace. In short -- for this price, stay in west Phuket in real 5+ star properties. Read less

All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. A lot of people would say," well that's their job, of course they're helpful". Well the staff here seem to go that extra mile to ensure all your needs are met. The room was cleaned daily and the bedding changed every other day, but, if you asked it can be changed daily. Our room maid was Ning and she was always smiling from ear to ear. A lovely character. Our tour rep for Kuoni/Go Vacation was a young lady called Noo. She was an absolute mine of information. We were advised which tours were best at certain times and which would be better to do from another of the resorts we were visiting later on our tour. We booked a tour to the Phi phi Islands but sadly I picked up a 24 hour bug which meant my wife had to go on the tour alone, but Noo let the tour crew know what happened and they took extra care to ensure my wife was well cared for. Overall the food choices at Cape Panwa were very good. Although we were on a bed and breakfast basis there were no short cuts. The breakfast menu was everything from continental to full English and as much or as little as you choose. The hotel ran a free shuttle bus service to the local bay where you could visit street traders or shop at the local 7/11 grocery store or make use of local restaurants. The bus, more an open backed minibus, would run every 15 minutes. The hotel had a good choice of pools and a nice beach. A good place to start our special tour. Read less
