The hotel

In a secluded bay, overlooking a beach regarded as the most beautiful on Phuket, this is certainly an idyllic holiday choice. Soft golden sand to glide along, sunsets to admire, and, of course, beautiful accommodation, ranging from Junior Suites to those set back amongst trees and tropical flowers. Pampering pursuits include a full-service spa and a beauty salon, ensuring you look and feel your best. As well as lots of sports activities you can get involved in more cultural endeavours, take a Thai cooking class and learn how to carve those fancy fruit decorations or enjoy a workout whilst learning the art of Thai boxing. Finally, a word about those restaurants, there are several to choose from, serving Thai and Western delights for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There’s also La Scala for Italian cuisine and light music, plus several beach bars for an enticing tropical cocktail!

Before we booked we had read all the reviews (mostly positive) but our experience was different. We had just spent 8 nights at Beyond Resort Khao Lak and left there feeling relaxed and ready to move to a more bustling part of Thailand. We had booked 3 nights in a grand deluxe room. Our transport stopped at the 'first' reception area. We were greeted by friendly and smiling staff who looked ready to welcome us in - until they saw that the rooms we had booked were in the 'other' section of the resort and we were quickly ushered back into our transport. A very short drive later and the experience was polar opposite. We were greeted by no staff and when we went into the reception area the staff were very rushed and we felt like we were an inconvenience to them (granted it was very busy). It almost felt like we were a bother and this was the 'poor people reception area' (The room was not 'cheap'). They did provide a welcome drink, however because they rushed me through every part of the check in process, suddenly they took it away before I could even take a sip.  They advised us that they could not accommodate the room we had booked for the first night and that they would move us to the room we had booked tomorrow. When we got to the room, it had 2 beds (not one) (it was our wedding anniversary), and the view from the outdoor space was overlooking a wall, shop advertising and power lines. It was a huge downgrade from the deluxe room. We immediately went to reception and asked for 'any other room' - we also advised we would be happy to pay to upgrade and were told that they were fully booked and there was nothing they could do (we had booked 4 months in advance).   The next day we were taken to our new room - it was still a deluxe room (not grand deluxe) although it did have the one king bed which was good. We went to reception to advise that this wasn't the room we booked and they advised me I was wrong. When I asked if it was the same room type we had booked, why were we placed in the same type of room last night (when they couldn't accommodate our room choice) they again told me I was wrong and dismissed me without further comment. The resort was not all bad, however I do not feel like the resort should have accepted my booking (I booked direct through the resorts website) if they could not accommodate what I had paid for. My husband has some specific needs due to mobility issues, so we are really picky about the room layout and type of accommodation we book - the room type always is chosen based on our requirements and not 'wants'. After that, I was glad we only had to spend 2 more nights there. The resort is huge, has lots of facilities and is very kid/family friendly. They even had a friendly night market where you could buy local handmade souvenirs from - which were really cool. The Coconut Bar was our favourite place within the whole resort and greatly enhanced our 3 night stay. The sunset from the Coconut Bar was truly amazing! The Sky Bar which is located high on a mountain, seperate from the resort, is a must see in the area, 5 minutes away, if you can tolerate the abundance of arrogant 'Influencers' moving the furniture around for their greed for 'likes'. The Coconut Bar staff were our favorites and went above and beyond to feel welcome, making us the most fabulous cocktails and entertaining our music requests to play over the speaker - you truly made our stay wonderful. Thank you Boonserm, Ariya and Att Haphon. Overall maybe 3.5 stars Tim and Julie Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Definitely NOT a 4.5 or 5 Star Resort

This is not a 5 Star resort. Our first room was on the ground floor and had a very pungent mouldy smell. They moved us to the 2nd floor which was better, but really for the price paid it’s still not good. They also had remediation work being done (painting) with rooms having tarpaulin draped over their balcony’s during our stay. Paying 4.5 star… Read more

Lovely resort. We had a pool access room. A decent size with private sunbathing terrace. Food was good in all the restaurants. Plenty of staff, all cheerful and efficient. Only down side was a very sparse entertainment programme (day and night)
