The hotel

There’s nothing quite like playing golf where the greats do: this golfer’s paradise hosts the PGA TOUR’s Cognizant Classic every February, with living legends playing its famous Championship Course. Recently redesigned by Jack Nicklaus, as part of the hotel’s multi-million dollar renovation, it’s just one of 6 exceptional courses open to guests here. It’s not just the fairways that have been revamped; the PGA National Resort has also given a fabulous makeover to its renowned full-service spa, huge Sports & Racquet Club, guest rooms, and dining venues. The Butchers Club is a must try, serving signature dishes by famous celebrity chef Jeremy Ford.

Myself and three buddies spent January 2-5, 2025 at PGA National. We stayed in the presidential suite with a connecting room that was spectacular. The golf course and staff were impeccable. River Richer did a tremendous job in the pro shop. The entire staff on site made it an outstanding experience.

Birdies restaurant has great food in a classic diner feel. Out server was Joni who is great, if she recommends a food just listen to her. She knows what’s popular and what’s good. The whole vibe is great looking over the Champions course and water. It’s where you want to be!
Image of the Tripadvisor rating "Room rate" is fake--40% "taxes and fees" extra which the hotel refused to explain after mutiple requests!

There is much to like about the PGA National Resort. The rooms were nice, the staff were pleasant to deal with, the property is well-maintained, and food at the restaurants is good. There is much to like about the PGA National Resort. The rooms were nice, the staff were pleasant to deal with, the property is well-maintained, and food at the restaurants is good. Based on those things alone, I would stay there again--BUT--there is a big caveat! The listed "room rate" is basically fake. My wife and I stayed at the hotel for a number of nights, combining several reservations. For each night we prepaid for our hotel, and a rather high amount of (unspecified) "taxes and fees" were mentioned on the website. After our stay, although we had already prepaid these unspecified "taxes and fees," we got charged a huge extra amount of "taxes and fees." The total "taxes and fees" amounted to around 40% (39.7%, for example) of the listed "room rate"! We never got a receipt with a breakdown of these taxes and fees. When we therefore asked to get a specific breakdown of these taxes and fees, this request was not honored, despite multiple requests. So it is a nice hotel--but you may be paying a lot more than you expected to pay, and you may not be allowed to find out why, even if you ask repeatedly. Read less

Free self parking, plenty of spaces. Negatives: Very expensive and they nickel and dime you. Everything costs extra and is way overpriced. Biggest problem is they seem to be understaffed. We made a reservation for dinner but were told when we got to the restaurant (which was mostly empty) it would be an hour wait as they did not have enough waitstaff. Trouble getting anyone on the phone to answer questions. Cleaning person did not fully close the door to my room, anyone could have come in! Terrible breach of security. Bellman misplaced my golf clubs, it took quite a hunt to find them. My room overlooked three beautiful pools but they were for the spa use only and massages and facials cost upwards of $200. And when I called for an appointment there were none available. Read less
