The hotel

An inspiring oceanfront beach retreat, the Royal Palm offers modern, vibrant living whilst keeping intact many signature elements of the original Art Deco design. Rooms are gorgeous, with stunning city or ocean views, rich linen robes to relax in and organic bath products. When you’re not out and about sightseeing or strutting your stuff down at the beach, relax by one of the two pools, a cocktail in one hand, a good book in the other. There are restaurants all around you but for good eats you don't need to leave the hotel. From casual poolside dining at the Grove to the exciting flavours of the Middle East at Byblos - there's something to suit all tastes. Palm Island Bar is great for a sundowner, particularly at the weekend with the live DJ music to groove to.

DON’T go - a very mixed experience. Week holiday was celebrating my 60th birthday and we’ve stayed at the Royal Palm 3 times before for holidays and also work. I’d booked an Ocean View King with balcony (648), checked out on the 3rd March. Room View was great but room was tired and quite basic. Bathroom in particular needed refurbing. The shower door had a gap so every day water seeped onto floor. 3 days out of 7 my room wasn’t cleaned as housekeeping came after 5pm which was when I’d come off the beach and was getting ready to go out. Housekeeping didn’t speak English and when I requested an earlier clean at the front desk they didn’t communicate to housekeeping or if they did, was ignored. It was clear rooms turning over, were the priority not existing guests. Why not rotate room cleaning? EXTREMELY annoying as I’d paid £3500.00 for week! Last day - gone through hoops to agree a late checkout at 2 pm. Housekeeping hammered on the door 4 TIMES to clean the room despite me telling them 2PM had been agreed. Checkout was an absolute nightmare as all accounting systems went down to the front desk. So then the fun really started. On departure they couldn’t print bills at all. So we all left being told we’d been checked out and final bill would be emailed. Always a risk, but what could we do? We have all had bill issues. I had prepaid to include all taxes and the destination tax. I had double checked that in a message exchange with the hotel via the BOOKING.com app I’d booked on. They manage the acct by crediting what you’ve paid and deducting charges charging you the balance at the end, which looks odd, I had 3 different room rates on the bill but these sort of tallied with the week total expected. My bill showed additional charges for beach - correct, but the $33 per day destination fee and tax of $4.62 per day on top of that was incorrect AND I CANNOT get it credited. Hotel doesn’t pick up the phone, Marriott Bonvoy and hotel are not responding to emails. Friends in 1638 and 1648 also have issues. No response for them either. No customer service, no care and has left a really sour taste after what was a good holiday. The location is good. Hotel customer care really poor. Perhaps front desk will respond to this review????? Image of the Tripadvisor rating Great Place To Stay

Other than the rooms needing updating, our room was clean and spacious. The staff are friendly, the location is great, the pool is cool but refreshing and the beach is clean. We were able to get beach chairs because we went out around 9am. My family enjoyed our stay.

This place is not only a dump but they also have a difficult time estimating checkin times. They allow for a 4pm checkout and in the same room a 4pm check in, I guess they think that they can clean the room in a second or less. Guess what, they cannot. We had a 4pm checkin and did t get our room keys until 5:30. Meanwhile the front desk assured us… Read more

As far as the hotel, it’s garbage, the two bedroom suite is gross, the windows have never been cleaned. All around a pretty nasty place. Read less

As a Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite and Platinum for Life member, with over 2,000 nights stayed across Marriott properties globally, I have come to expect a certain level of service, quality, and cleanliness—standards that this stay fell far short of, making it one of the worst experiences I have had with Marriott. First and foremost, the cleanliness of the room was completely unacceptable. Upon check-in, I found leftover food under the coffee table from a previous guest, which was not even cleaned during my stay. The couch had visible food and coffee residues under the cushions, and the bathroom had hair in the sink from the very first day. Additionally, despite Marriott’s standard practice, no slippers were provided in the room. The overall state of the furniture was unacceptable, with pieces being old, broken, and potentially hazardous (see attached images of the coffee table). Furthermore, essential toiletries such as a toothbrush were missing, which should be a basic amenity. Beyond the cleanliness and room conditions, the service and amenities did not align with what is expected from a hotel in this category. As a loyal Bonvoy member, I have always received complimentary breakfast as part of my benefits. However, I was extremely surprised to learn that at this property, only the limited buffet was included, and any additional items, such as an omelet, required an extra charge. This is not in line with the premium hospitality and service that Marriott typically provides to its most loyal guests. Additionally, room maintenance was subpar. The bathroom lights were not fully functional, making it inconvenient to use. Water bottle replacements were inconsistent, which is unacceptable for a property of this level. Given the premium price point of $4,000 for five nights, this experience was not just below Marriott’s standards—it was a complete letdown. I would strongly discourage anyone from choosing this property based on the conditions I encountered. I would appreciate a formal response regarding this matter, as well as an explanation as to how such issues could occur at a Marriott-branded hotel. Additionally, I would like to know what steps will be taken to address these concerns for future guests Read less

Complimentary breakfast was great every morning. Such great hospitality and service. Pedro was an amazing waiter to us and made us feel welcome every morning. We also enjoyed his jokes and cheery smiles. The service all around was great overall in the hotel.
