Walt Disney World, Orlando

Star rating

The hotel

Tropical gardens, lavish luaus and calm waves characterise Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. Gentle people, laughter and good cheer help every member of the family to capture that laid-back South Pacific mood in no time at all. Rooms are airy and have a tropical feel with bamboo and wood décor. When exploring the resort, tell the kids to look out for the unique Kukai Nut tree. The only one of its kind in the state of Florida, the tree was brought to the Walt Disney World Resort from its native Hawaii. The hotel is on the monorail system that will whizz you to the Magic Kingdom Park.

We had 2 rooms on the third floor of the Rarotonga building, right near the lobby. This was very convenient for early morning (6:30 am) coffee at Kona Island and for the monorail and parking lot, while also being extremely quiet at night (after fireworks). We faced an internal courtyard and had balcony rooms. We could see the MK fireworks from our rooms! One of the rooms was ready early so we changed clothes and visited the Moana splash zone and pool area upon arrival. Loved it. I would absolutely choose the Polynesian again, even though it is costly and busy in the lobby. Housekeeping was excellent, the rooms were immaculate. One time we called down for a few more towels, and someone brought them up immediately. This was our 5th or 6th time at WDW over a span of 30 years and our favorite of all of the hotels so far. Disney bliss can be found at the legendary Polynesian, as long as you get a room or overwater bungalow that is FAR from the UGLY and OPPRESSIVE new DVC Polynesian Tower nearby. Our gorgeous overwater bungalow was beautifully decorated and special all around. The nightime fireworks from the front lanai with pipedin music was spectacular, the plung pool, the master bedroom, the beautiful tile, and the soaring ceilings were our favorite! We also love the adjacency to Kona Cafe, Ohana and the main hotel gift store. The staff was AMAZING! Everyone at WDW was truly incredible over our 7 day stay - they make the difference. A few things in the bungalow need changes fast! The primary bed is TOO HIGH, dangerous and has a base that sticks out farther than the mattress. My short mother fell out of bed and hurt herself, and has to sleep on the murphy bed the rest of the trip. Luckily the murphy bed was a normal height and comfortable. Also, there was a LOUD vaccumm sound every 15 min or so that is the waster vaccum systerm for the bungalows... this seems like Disney could find a way to make this less intrusive. But the setting is bliss! As long as you are nowhere near the hideous and huge DVC Polynesian Tower - it is an eyesore and runins the part of the Polyneisian adjacnet to it. Shame on Disney for buidling this ugly tower - cheap and ordinary! We do reccomend the rest of the Polynesian and the access to all the parks is terrific too! Read less

This was our families first trip to Disney world, and our kids’ first-ever Disney experience, was supposed to be magical, but unfortunately, it was far from that. We splurged to book a room with a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks, hoping for an unforgettable experience. However, from the moment we checked in, everything went downhill. We were assigned a room on the first floor next to the elevators with absolutely no view magic kingdom. In fact, even the massive fireworks display was blocked by palm trees and bushes. This was not the experience we paid thousands of dollars for, and understandably, we were frustrated. When we asked if we could be moved to a room with the view we paid for or at least receive a discount for the limited view, we were told we could only move rooms the following morning. So, we had to wake up our children and pack up our room to completely check out before 8am. We almost missed our first fast pass. We were assured that our new room would be ready by noon, after we checked out and spent the day at the park. However, when we called every hour, we were met with the same response—our room wasn’t ready. We returned to the resort at 4 PM (which is general check in time), exhausted and with a very cranky toddler who had missed his nap. We were told the room still wasn’t ready. At this point, we had no choice but to sit in the lobby for over an hour while our children cried from exhaustion, which was incredibly stressful. On top of all this, the staff mismanaged our Instacart order, sending us on a wild goose chase to track it down. Overall, the customer service was disappointing, especially considering Disney’s reputation for helping families. Every time we asked a question, we were met with the same response "I don't know, you should ask someone else". While there was plenty of staff, they seemed under trained and overworked. Overall, the room was tiny, the staff unhelpful, and the experience felt more like a money grab than a family-friendly vacation. For the amount we paid, we would have been better off staying offsite or at a moderately priced hotel. I would not recommend staying at this resort again. Read less

Pictures include notice that electricity was down for 2 hours and security keeping guests out of closed pool. With the new tower building this place is horribly overbuilt. There are long waits for any restaurant any time of the day. The internet has been down as well. You will find much better options elsewhere.

Another New disney hotel ( Polynesian towers) that is obviously about packaging, not imaginative, cutting edge architecture or extraordinarily special. It’s definitely more like a basic new hilton hotel, with Disney paintings and some various limited props. Pool was so simple , small and boring. Imagineers are gone.
