Returned after visiting three years ago and sadly we regret it- it felt like a different hotel. Rooms are in need of major update- first day we had broken air con for 10hrs, another no hot water, and the last two days a broken phone and no working electric sockets. One day room went uncleaned and mini bar not restocked over the weekend- all of issues were raised with them via their requested WhatsApp chat and all messages we sent were ignored after the first 48hrs. Some staff are exceptional as other reviews say, other staff don’t know what they are doing- particularly in tides the poolside restaurant. Lunch took 75minutes to arrive and staff just joked in front of us as to whose error it was that our order got lost. There was a horrible sewage smell at Tides which they try to cover with some incense. Pool needing cleaning as had suncream grease on the top of the water. Food was mostly good although same dish varied day to day depending on who was in the kitchen. Hasu exceptional and Sapori dinner was very good. Entertainment and layout is great for a family and the beach and water sports are great. Overall felt more like a 3* hotel and a big step down from our last visit- regret our return and won’t go back. I mentioned all of this to guest services on our departure and sadly her face told me I was not the only disapppinted guest. Read less

It's a lovely hotel with good facilities. Unlike other reviewers, we found the room to be clean and in good condition. Our housekeeper, Lina, was delightful and her supervisor Indirin was an interesting guy who talked about his Tamil background and Hinduism in the country (if you get a chance to hire a car, I totally recommend a visit to Ganga Talao in the Black River Gorges National Park). Anyway, back to the hotel. The food was good. We preferred the choices at Le Marche over the other restaurants though. Do make sure you book a couple of days in advance for Sapori, Tides and Chopsticks. The pool is fantastic. However, the staff at the pool bar are very unlike staff elsewhere. They don't like people ordering at the bar; I got ignored for a short while and then when I finally placed an order I felt like I was interrupting his work. When the food was delivered to our sun lounger, a snack was missing. I highlighted this to the waiter who just shrugged his shoulders and said 'Maybe he didn't hear you correctly'. I think some training might be needed! Surely the right response would be 'Sorry to hear that, I'll go and get the rest of the order for you'... However, it's important to say that the staff here are fantastic. Most seem genuinely happy rather than just going through the motions. From the security staff at the entrance to the guys at the watersports centre and everyone in between, they are a credit to Sun Life. Read less

This resort is average compared to others we've visited. However, I’d like to express my gratitude to a few staff members: Kumar and Vicky at the main bar, and Vimal at Sapori. The chefs, Ritesh and Prakash, were outstanding once I shared our food preferences with them. Our family room (number 140) was spacious, which we liked, though I had to request curtains as the bedroom and shower area were open-plan. The request was fulfilled immediately. There are plenty of dining options; we particularly enjoyed Sapori and the main buffet area. During the day, we spent time at the adults-only area, which was peaceful and quiet. I also booked a massage, but it was nothing special, especially for the $140 price – I wouldn’t recommend it. The staff were a mix of friendly and indifferent. Some employees were great, while others seemed to ignore us. It's surprising, as hospitality staff should be more attentive, especially when dealing with guests. For instance, there was one person at the pool bar who completely ignored my requests. The seating for the evening entertainment was limited, so we had to return to our room on a couple of nights. Also, check in could be done more efficiently. The girl who did ours took ages. They also didn’t allow us extra time in the room on departure day even though we agreed to pay for it. Overall, would we return? No. Read less

incredibly nice staff with perfect service, we felt very good, beautiful beach, delicious food, the only thing that can be criticized is the design of the main dining room
