The hotel
A unique and new concept to Mauritius, SALT of Palmar is an eco-conscious, one-of-a-kind property that immerses you into the beauty of the island. Designed by the French designer Camille Walala, SALT of Palmar showcases bold, colourful patterns and a vibrant aesthetic blending contemporary design elements with a mix of Mauritian cultural influences. As soon as you arrive, you'll feel at home, with the added bonus of sea breeze in your hair and sand between your toes. Experience island-life with the skill swap programme, enjoy some water sports, or simply choose to relax poolside or beachside. Food is big deal around here too, with a focus on fresh, organic, and seasonal produce, much of which comes from its own farm or nearby sources. My wife and I came to Salt for a week to switch off from every day life and to enjoy a relaxing holiday, something we very rarely do. The hotel had some incredible reviews and also ticked a lot of boxes for us and boy it didn't disappoint once we were there. From the moment we walked through the door, a sense of calm came over us, which lasted for our whole stay. The design of this Hotel is beautiful, which is only complemented by the wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable team, who are just incredible. And the food is phenomenal! The whole team always gave us 100% and made us feel very calm and relaxed. They even went the extra mile for us when we had difficulties with our return flight.
If Mauritius is on your radar, please make this your No 1 place to stay.

First impressions: a grand looking entrance greets you along with staff greeting you with a hand on heart bowed welcome, your first encounter on how lovely all the staff are going to be during your visit.
As you step through the door, you can see that pretty much 'every' aspect & item has been designed to be 'Instagramable'... you WILL photograph everything during your stay!!! The place is stunning.
Rooms: We chose beachfront rooms and were not disappointed with the views. Huge 'very open' walk-in showers are a nice touch, quirky colours and touches throughout the room with big comfortable bed & pillows.
Food & Bar: We were intrigued how the 'All Inclusive' option works as SALT have no buffet, everything including breakfast you order individually from a menu, the idea being no waste. This actually works very well although a 9-day stay exhausts most choices & suggest taking advantage of the daily specials throughout your stay at lunch & dinner. Service is interesting, as mentioned the staff are all fantastic & loveable but our experience found that many of our orders would be lost in translation somewhere between us, the waiter, the chef, the bar, no great mishaps just 'quirky' liveable/ rectifiable ones that weirdly just added to the whole charm of the place... like it wasn't really trying to be 5 star perfect but being that cool boutiquey place you just chill in.
Beach: White sands, plenty of beds with beautiful views & towels aplenty. Boat House with again nice friendly helpful staff for your water sport needs, highly recommend the free daily boat trip out to Snorkel in the coral.
Pool & Roof Bar: Take a look at the photos... picture perfect.
Spa: We all enjoyed a 60 minute treatment each designed to our individual needs, the experience ends with a relaxing chill in their SALT room, salt crystal floor, illuminated colour changing solid salt brick work surrounds you.
Negatives: Not really. Personally I would suggest that both the food menu & bar menu financially doesn't need so many * items (i.e not included in all-inclusive) e.g being a small or large draft lager is included but a small draft ale/beer is not?
Positives: Stunning modern design with loveable staff making your stay a very enjoyable one!!
Thank you.

Staff were very welcoming, attentive and friendly. We had breakfast during our stay and the occasional dinner, the food was a delicious blend of local cuisine, expertly cooked and presented. Most nights had a theme, which was fun, and there were great vegan/veggie options too. A shout out to our favourite waiter, Sanjay, for looking after us…

Our hotel room was nice, no ocean view unfortunately, a bit noisy at times, and a warning about no tv or shower curtain/door!
The hotel was intimate and cosy with a lovely pool which captured the sun most of the day, but the show stopper for us was the beach. Crystal blue water, hardly any waves and beautiful coral & sealife to snorkel and discover. The hotel offered complimentary snorkelling and glass bottom boat trips, which we took advantage of, as well as free kayak, SUP and pedalo’s to rent.
A nice surprise was the hotel’s itinerary of activities ranging from the usual volleyball and yoga to bath fizz making and cocktail classes. A very nice touch and a great way to meet fellow guests.
