The hotel

With this hotel offering two-room suites all round, it's tempting to stay in and relax for longer, but the complimentary hot breakfast buffet and made-to-order omelette station will help get you out and set up for the day! At the Embassy Suites by Hilton Monterey Bay Seaside, you are a couple of blocks from the beach and just two miles north of Downtown Monterey, with lots of attractions and activities along the Bay too, such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium or Steinbeck Museum. Alternatively, head out in the car for 20 minutes or so for a bit of hiking, winery action or spa treats. The hotel’s 2-hour evening reception with complimentary cocktails and snacks is a great way to kick-off your evening. The Silver Tide Bar & Grill is in the atrium too, so why not drop in afterwards for some local California cuisine?

I was going for a convention at the hotel and was not told there was a $40 nightly parking upon checking in. I thought it was included with the conference. When I asked about it upon checking out, they said its stated on line, but I feel the receptionist should've mentioned it. That is $120 I was not expecting. We have stayed at several Embassy Suites throughout our travels, and this is by far the best one we have stayed at. The rooms were standard Embassy Suites rooms with a bedroom area with a door closing it off from the sitting area. There was a microwave and small refrigerator. The refrigerator did have a small freezer compartment which was nice to keep any ice packs frozen. The breakfast buffet was the best I have ever seen. The food was continually monitored so it was always fresh, not dried out, and hot. There were also two setups so it was not crowded. Of course they also had the made to order omelets, pancakes and bacon line. That line did get long, but the staff worked quickly and the line moved along at a good pace. The evening reception was also laid out very nicely with the best snacks I have experienced at any of the other Embassy Suites...hummus, vegetables, trail mix, and a petite pita bread. Not to go unmentioned was the over-the-top friendliness of every employee we encountered. Everyone engaged us in conversation as they went about their tasks. I spoke with several other guests and all seemed pleased. This is a good choice when visiting the Monterey area. Read less

I reserved three nights on Booking.com which stated no cost the cancel. I phoned the hotel prior to checking in to cancel the last night of a three day stay and the weather forecast had changed with an atmospheric river arriving a day earlier. I was told that a third party had already charged my credit card and there was nothing they could do. I was given a number by Hilton customer service which was a non working number as were the numbers I had received on the emails I received from the reservation. After multiple phone calls and a great deal of aggravation I was told by the manager that she would cancel the last night. The room we were given had a heating system that was blowing cold air. After trying to adjust the thermostat to no avail we called for help. A worker came to the room with a ladder to work on the vent in the ceiling and said it would soon get warmer. It did not. The next day two other men came to try to fix it and finally said it was 64 degrees and couldn’t be fixed so moved us to another room. The charge for parking is 20$ a day and also another 15$ destination fee daily which of for internet and can be used to buy that amount of merchandise in the hotel. The food is the bright spot, it was very good. Also had a three hour power outage so no elevators worked or lights other than in the lobby. Read less

The staff was welcoming as soon as we stepped in. The pool was nice and heated and we enjoyed the complimentary food and drinks. We were upgraded to a spacious suite with an ocean view and a balcony. It’s a great location close to the ward and fairgrounds.
