We have stayed at the Catamaran Hotel 4 times in the last year. Not only because it's perfect, but it's also because of the employees. Renee and Liz in reservations are absolutely outstanding. My husband jokes that he wishes we could hire them for our business. If you are considering a trip to San Diego, you won't be disappointed staying here.
The birds and their caregivers are what made our stay extra special!

The hotel was great and the staff was very nice, but what made our time at the hotel extra special was the all the birds and their caregivers. Upon our arrival we met Denise who was not only approachable, friendly, and knowledgeable she interacted with all the birds and us to make a more personal experience for us. It was great to learn about all their different personalities and to see how well cared for all the birds are. We didn’t have as much interactions with Isabella during our stay because of her schedule, but she was great too. If we are in the area again we will most certainly stay at the Catamaran and enjoy the birds and caregivers.

Excellent customer service in the reservation department

I had excellent service from Renee in Reservations who assisted me today to make a change to the online reservation that I had made. It had an error on the dates of my stay and she was quickly able to correct it.
She was very knowledgeable on the hotel room choices and helped me choose the room that best suited my needs.
uncooperative and kind of gross

My family of 11 got 5 rooms for a week for Thanksgiving. We spent about $7000 on rooms. We then spent another $2000 on their incredibly overpriced breakfast at the hotel. There were some serious problems with my room but I just wanted to enjoy my stay rather than go constantly to the front desk to complain. But now, I've had it! This place has got some bots doing reviews I think. The grounds were nice and well kept, I will give them that. Also, the arcade for kids was nice, though it got pretty disgusting by about mid-day as nobody every cleaned it.
Here's the real down side: All floors are all carpeted. Sorry, that is disgusting in this day and age of disease and bacteria. Carpet was older and had a musty smell in the room. Carpets hold all sorts of nasty things in them from previous guests.
We had a cockroach in sink. Found gum on carpets. Not hot water available til 10am. There was no ice in ice machine after 9 pm. Blood spots on pillow cases. Weird gunk on sheets. Our tub drain failed (which we needed for kids bath). The tower elevator broke leaving one elevator for like 200 rooms. These are all little things mostly but what bothered me the most is when I asked for a late checkout. Just an hour late (noon rather than eleven). The absolute power tripping menace at the front desk (Randy ) was not only grossly uncooperative, he was actually hostile. I told him that we had spent thousands of dollars on multiple rooms for a week plus the restaurant and all I wanted was a ONE HOUR LATER CHECKOUT. That's not unreasonable. I did not curse at him. I did not belittle him. After everything we went through, a noon checkout was all I wanted. But, no, You would think I was asking for his DNA or his bank account info or something.
What an absolute joke! My family was very upset the hotel couldn't accomodate a simple one hour late checkout on one of their rooms. I suggested that we all checkout exactly at 11am but we didn't want to sink to their level.
Here's some fotos too so you know I'm not lying....
PEACE OUT.
