The hotel

You might feel like you’ve boarded a luxury cruise ship as you enter this distinctive boutique hotel, perched on the edge of the bay. The Argonaut’s original red brick walls, rich wood beams and ‘deck floors’ help to transport you back to San Francisco’s nautical heyday. At the same time, the plush décor provides all you need to settle in to your charming surrounds. Until, of course, those views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz lure you out to explore all that is Fisherman’s Wharf.

For me staying here was a step-up in cost and luxury, but again I had believed I had checked into the residential hotel, intending to stay there for a number of weeks, again my booking hadn't gone through. instead of going back down town, I headed for Fishermans Warf( I had only been there a couple of times, in the four years I lived in San Francisco), Again I was exhausted with the heat and the weight I was carrying, I actually just walked into this place and got a room. stayed a number of nights, before moving on again, I have never been in a hotel with a mini-bar, and always believed the drinks would be in the fridge, they were just in a press, many were just the small bottles you would pay $2.00 for in a liquor store, or up to $10.00 on a flight, there were a couple of larger measures, but I would say ten in all, plus maybe a couple of small bottles of wine, and water, I drank everything, and boy did it cost me, over $400.00 about $40.00 a drink, it's the only gripe I have about staying there. An amazing location, and an amazing decoration and theme. It is all about nautical. Personally, I loved the theme( as a sailor) yet I think the price for the room and what you get could be adjusted . Our room was large beautiful bay view king size bed . Happened to have a sofa as well. Structuring the furniture was interesting but not functioning . You could watch TV only from the sofa not from bed . EVERYTHING in the room is for a pay. Not even complimentary waters. If you are vegan or vegetarian you have nothing to eat at their restaurant. Bathroom could use an upgrade from the motel like bathroom to a more modern large walk in shower. Read less

The hotel is perfectly placed in Fisherman's Wharf, right between Ghirardhelli and Pier 39. The location is quiet also. We ate at the Blue Mermaid for breakfast, and used the $15 discount provided by the hotel. Even with this discount, the food was slightly on the pricier side, but the food was tasty. Overall, I would definitely recommend. Read less
