Image of the Tripadvisor rating Great location but watch out for the "inclusive breakfast" there is a catch !

Don't bother with paying for the inclusive breakfast as it has a $50 limit and you will be expected to pay extra. Instead walk for 4 minutes to the Darren's Café, 2731 Taylor St, San Francisco, CA 94133. We both at a great meal for under $50 and terrific service. Also the hotel raves about having a record player in the room, however, no kettle!… Read more

Luxurious beds, anemic showers, outstanding restaurant. Whole family enjoyed the food. The location was great and walkable to all fisherman’s wharf activities. Free coffee, tea, and water in the lobby and a social hour daily. Buyer beware: did not honor any IHG platinum perks, they were “sold out” and didn’t attempt to even try to help us. But… Read more

But more generally, the front desk staff was incredibly rude to not only me but my children. They have a pretentious air of high luxury without the service to back it up and seem to have forgotten the are a mid tier portfolio hotel. The restaurant is in another league. Read less

When it's the Alton Hotel - Fisherman's Wharf. My recent stay with my young son was a pure disappointment with none of the joy I usually associate with staying at a Kimpton hotel. First, the good points: -- The location is great if Fisherman's Wharf is in your plans. A short walk to all the activities and attractions of the area. Near the cable cars. We loved the area. -- Housekeeping was willing to accomodate our in-room hours and always came back to clean the room. Now, for the rest: -- Horrible check-in experience. The night clerk is poorly trained and not aware of anything. -- There was no meaningful benefits with being either an Ambassador or Diamond level member. I did get 2 bottles of water (which I had to ask for) and a $10 credit at the lobby store (M&M's cost $5 a bag). -- 3x saw the front desk arguing with guests. I'm not sure who was "right" and who was "wrong," but it's never nice to witness negative interactions. -- When I was checking out, I was asked about my stay and I mentioned that this was the worst Kimpton I had stayed at. When I was asked why I didn't say anything earlier, I told them I did, but didn't hear back. That was it. Other than a look of slight distress, I'm not sure they really cared. We spent 4 days there. San Francisco was wonderful. Hotel was not. There are many other options in the area - I will stay at one of those in the future. Oh, and they had an idiotic $40 fee for nonsensical services. Image of the Tripadvisor rating Nice hotel before catching cruise

Dec 28, 2024 Bobkatevan Tucson, Arizona

A nice hotel near the fishermen's wharf. Only a couple blocks away from the wharf. Clean. Bed was comfortable. Wifi was good. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. We were catching a cruise, so easy uber drive to the port. I would stay again. Nice staff.

First time guest. Mary and Esme at the Front Desk are INCREDIBLE! I had a word doc that needed printing. Computer-related tasks are oftentimes more complex than they should be. This was no exception, but Mary and Esme went through some creative trouble-shooting to make it happen. Additionally, being 7:30am, they were quite busy, but they… Read more

This was no exception, but Mary and Esme went through some creative trouble-shooting to make it happen. Additionally, being 7:30am, they were quite busy, but they managed to take care of all their guests while helping me. The Alton FW is a fine property, but ultimately people make the difference. You are lucky to have Mary and Esme in your employ! Mark Frey Read less
