Put yourself slap-bang in the middle of some of San Francisco’s most fashionable theatres, restaurants, and sights. The boutique Marker Hotel is a great base — and its energy matches its setting. It was built in 1910 but you can still see its ‘Beaux Arts’ beauty in the lobby’s floor-to-ceiling fireplace and grand marble staircase. The hotel’s anything but olde-worlde though, with little touches like WiFi, and a Hydration Station providing fruit and herb infused water on tap.

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. From the moment General Manage Brian Fenwick welcomed me personally in the lobby, to the moment he and his staff waved goodbye 3 days later, I felt incredibly well cared for. The room was comfortable and the bed divine. The lobby is beautiful and a great place to meet with clients and colleagues. The restaurant ended up being truly convenient because I was able to have several meetings right in the hotel. But it was the impeccable service that made this a stand-out place to stay. Definitely happening for me again next time! Thank you to everyone who works there!

A good hotel, we would recommend

We would highly recommend a stay at this hotel. We visited San Francisco for the first time between Christmas and New Year. The location is good. You can walk to many of the main central tourist areas, and are close to cable car and train lines if you wanted. A lot of reviews we read commented on the neighbourhood, and admittedly there are some roads not far away where there are a lot of homelessness, but the routes we took each day avoided this and we felt no worries on this front.
We were satisfied with the room, a standard double bed room. There was no view from our room, the window looked into a small roof courtyard, but it was also quiet. The bed was comfy, and we had no problems with the bathroom. It is slightly dated, but absolutely fine. Wifi worked throughout and was good.
We didn't have breakfast here, so cannot comment on this.
The biggest 5* I could give however would be to the staff. The reception staff were all brilliant. All incredibly friendly and seemed genuinely interested to help. We found this to be a level above a lot of good service we have had in other hotels.
If we can visit SF again, we would likely consider returning to the same hotel.

Lovely welcome on our late arrival and continued good service throughout our stay
Room needed a bit of updating and the corner suite (4th floor) proved to be very noisy in the mornings due to its dual aspect. However, the bed was very comfortable and the linens very clean
Problem with the shower throughout the stay, initially very hot and then not hot enough. The large bath was great and the bathroom was an excellent size
There is a restaurant/bar on site but this closed at 9 with no other bar to get a drink. The area is definitely gone downhill since my many previous stays around the Union Sq area so a bar within the hotel would be a definite bonus to those who may be viewing going out at night with some trepidation
No vending machine either, which for a hotel if this size is surprising
However, it’s position and the quality of staff gave this an extra star

Great location.

The Marker Hotel is in an excellent location in downtown SF. I was in a very quiet room with a comfortable bed and the staff was very friendly. Had a nice breakfast in the morning. Was there for a conference which was very convenient. No complaints.

The staff was especially cheerful and helpful. The room configuration was not to our taste (very long and rather dark) but other rooms we glanced at were more to our taste. The room was clean and comfortable.
