Legend lives on at The Peabody, Memphis’s grandest address. Deep in the downtown district, it’s just blocks from the relics of rock ‘n’ roll and blues that made Memphis famous, including Beale Street, Gibson Guitar Factory, Sun Studio, and Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum. Its most famous residents arrived in 1933, when the General Manager put his hunting decoy ducks in the fountain after a tipple or two of Tennessee whiskey. In 1940, a circus trainer taught them to ‘march’ and they still perform twice a day for guests (needless to say, duck isn’t on the menu here). That’s not the only custom that lives on, there’s the Peabody Afternoon Tea, the extravagant Sunday Brunch, and the simple tradition of indulgence, with the 5 restaurants and bars, Grecian-style pool and whirlpool, summertime rooftop parties, and Feathers Spa.

HISTORIC OLD HOTEL

Everyone wants to stay at this well-known old hotel with the reputation of the ducks. Be there at least half an hour early to get a viewing spot. Hotel lobby is elegant, rooms are small and bath is extra small. We had a Queen Bed (very comfortable) in Room 647 overlooking a busy street. Carpeting was old and worn. Stay for the experience, but temper you expectation of the accommodations.

Classic, elegant beauty and Southern hospitality describe the South's Grand Hotel, the one and only Peabody! Comfortable rooms, great restaurants and shops and a one of a kind Lobby Bar near a fountain with mallard ducks in it. It's always a fun time at The Peabody!
Beautiful overpriced tiny hotel room next to a lift. Did enjoy the ducks and lobby bar though.

I was super excited to stay here for a night, this had been the most expensive hotel we had booked. Turns out to be the most expensive and the smallest room we have stayed in so far. We were also located right out front of the lifts too which was noisy.

The only place I am staying in Memphis

We really enjoyed hotel charm, staff is beyond responsive and friendly. Whole duck theme is delightful without being too much. Every aspect of our stay was comforable and enjoyable. I will not go to any other place when I am in the area. We came really tired, left refreshed and energized, this is what hotel should provide.

We didn't go to steak house but next time we will correct that, I heard from people they enjoyed it.

The Air Conditioning in our room wasn't working and it took 2 hours to get a new room

Our room was very warm (the hall was cooler!). The room phone did not work so I walked to front desk to notify them of the problem. I was told a maintenance engineer would come. I waited 45 minutes in the room and then walked back to the front desk a second time to remind them. They called engineering again and the engineer came and tried to fix the air conditioning but ran into problems and told me he would call a senior engineer for assistance. I walked down to the front desk a third time and reported the problem and asked for a new room. I was told a bellboy would be sent up to help me move the luggage and provide me with keys. I waited for a while and finally the bellboy came. IT TOOK 2 HOURS TO GET A NEW ROOM! I told the front desk we should be compensated but only received an apology.
In addition, when we checked out of the hotel the front desk scanned our key card and we were told we would need it to exit the Peabody parking lot. We were informed the parking would be charged to our card. When we scanned the card upon exiting, it did not work. The car behind us had to back up so we could back up and let them exit. I had to get out of our car to hunt for a parking attendant. The attendant also tried our room key cards and it didn’t work for him so he had to type in his special code so we could exit.
The Peabody Hotel is a lovely historic hotel, but it shouldn’t have taken 2 hours to get a new room and we shouldn’t have had to find a parking attendant to help us get out of the garage.
