In all seriousness, I had one of THE most magical experiences here in NYC/Manhattan. An experience that will truly stand out & that I will not forget. This establishment has carved out a distinctive experience within a bustling & saturated area. I wish the CIVILIAN many more unforgettable decades of success. Every interaction and conversation with the staff was positive, warm, and helpful. I am so glad for the guidance and great tips from the entire staff. I reached out to the concierge and was given a thoughtful, detailed, and informative itinerary that guided me to find some amazing little nooks and crannies throughout the city. The decorations and themes throughout the hotel were one of a kind, and if you are there to experience the shows on Broadway this place is a must. It brings old New York artistic charm to the forefront and delivers beautifully. It even has a great connection to a local gym that keeps you fit between pizza slices and morning bagels. So thankful to have found this spot and can't wait for my next visit! Read less

Friendly staff who are always happy to help with any questions. Great location for broadway shows, subway stations to all the main sites and just far enough from time square. Lovely room, enough space, nice bathroom and everything you need for your stay.

Admittedly, I chose this in a desperate hurry, because of the price and the proximity to theaters. And then--it was beautiful! Lots of character, with furnishings paying homage to Broadway. A room full of props behind glass, beautifully furnished for relaxing after a show (or, if you get up early). Even the bar had not just theater photos, but a case full of set models including Sweeney Todd and Shucked! Shower = perfection. You could adjust the temperature without having to stand under the water. The pressure was good. The floor tiles had a slight texture, loving to the feet after a long day of walking. Small fridge--no coffeepot, but several shops a block or two away. Very comfy bed with a motion-sensor light at the bottom, so if you get up in the night you'll have sufficient light to be safe, but you will not wake a roommate. Wonderful, friendly staff on all shifts. Read less

We visited this hotel in March 2025, myself and my sister for a special birthday celebration. The hotel is lovely, the room and the bathroom has everything you need, the restaurant and bars are a real asset. It is walkable everywhere. Unfortunately for us, my sister suffered a major medical incident whilst at the hotel. This is when the hotel and the staff came into their own, they were kind, responsive, quick thinking, seamless in their dealings with us. They were generous and beyond helpful. So if thinking of booking a hotel, I would recommend, you'll have a wonderful time and hopefully nothing goes wrong. But should the unthinkable happen, I cannot imagine a better, more thoughtful care and service than the Civilian. Read less
