The hotel

Part of the very fabric of Midtown Manhattan, this Art Deco attraction is proudly capped with the red ‘New Yorker’ sign that’s made it a landmark in the city skyline. Inside its iconic 1929 shell, this Jazz Age hotel’s held on to its heritage. And it doesn’t matter what time you finish exploring, its 24-hour Tick Tock Diner will give you a taste of New York with American comfort food classics like burgers and all-day breakfasts. If you fancy something a little more upmarket, the New Yorker’s Trattoria Bianca comes with an oyster bar.

Such a convenient location for Penn station, Macy's, Subway ACE and Madison Square Garden. Enjoyed a fabulous three-sided terrace on the 30th floor with stunning views at dawn and sunset. Fast and efficient lifts, polite and helpful staff, a cosy home away from home, especially suited to over-40s. The Tick Tock diner is within the building, though a little pricey for a diner menu - an excellent alternative is just one block away, however. Cross the road if you fancy a McDonald's or Starbucks and there is a well-stocked CVS store on the next block. Great place to stay if you're coming in from JFK on the Airtrain and Subway Read less

Hotel location was excellent. Hotel itself is a little worn and tired looking, what it did the job for what we needed. Slightly disappointing that there is no hot drink facilities in the rooms unless we paid $25/night. Also disappointing to be charged $5 per luggage item (8 in total) to be stored in the luggage room on our final day whilst we were… Read more

I absolutely love the New Yorker. It is a beautiful Art Deco hotel. Yes, it might be slightly dated but this is all part of the original Art Deco charm. The staff are brilliant. Going out of their way to help, nothing was too much trouble. It is perfectly placed for the airport train services, they stop literally outside the hotel. It's in a… Read more

Going out of their way to help, nothing was too much trouble. It is perfectly placed for the airport train services, they stop literally outside the hotel. It's in a great location for visiting the sights and in a vry safe area. This is my 2nd visit and I shall return. The beds are super comfy. We stayed in an executive double, double room which was massive. Read less

Just departing hotel shortly. Our room and bathroom were small and in serious need of updating everything. Room and corridors totally outdated and in need of total refurbishment that been said our room was spotlessly clean. Room lacked tea and coffee facilities. All the staff were lovely. We were not informed of facilities charge and New York tax . On check in I queried the receptionist on the 200 dollar been taken from my card and she said it was in case of damage to the property or in case we owed hotel money. She said that it would be refunded to my card on departure if everything was in order - which it was but we found an invoice pushed under room door this morning taking 160 dollars for these facilities charges and when I queried it I was told it was a mandatory New York charge and that I should have read small print on my booking documents. Food and staff in tratatori and tick Tock restaurants were lovely Read less

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL it is barely a 2 star hotel let alone the 4 star that it claims. The rooms are small, Ill equip (not so much as coffee making facilities) and to say they were clean would be a joke. In fact after speaking to the night manager (who thinks the hotel needs to be closed for a 2 year renovation) the room still wasn't cleaned properly with hairs in the bath tub and months of dust and grimes accumulated in various places (picture attached is the light fitting above the mirror in the bathroom). On top of this they charge (but do not tell you about) a $35 nightly fee for "facilities" utter joke for this grimy and dated "hotel" as the only thing they provide is WiFi. The only positive from this stay is the location. Read less
