Great holiday, with a vast variety in restaurants and loads of different things to do on the resort. The staff are very polite and helpful with every need. Private pool was lovely although we had a problem with how poorly cleaned it was.

Its not often I write reviews ( infact this is my first one ) but I would like to warn others that there is currently significant ongoing building work adjacent the pool area ,beach front and lunch time restaurant .At the time of booking, we were not informed of this by either our tour operators ( TUI ) or by the Barcelo ,Coconut island ,if we had been, we would not have booked here. We were given a free room upgrade away from some of the building noise ,however this holiday was about relaxing on the beach /by the pool and eating nice lunches / meals ,all of which were affected by constant building noise ( grinding ,cutting , hammer drills and nail guns ). The rooms that haven't yet been refurbished are now very  tired  .Before our upgrade ,our room had a jacuzzi with its wiring in such a state of disrepair it could have lead to a fatal accident, yet it took 4 day for maintenance to repair (with mastic ).The heavy tropical rain shower head came off the first time it was used (due to corroded pipe work), hitting my wife in the face . If you have any disability you should be aware that the lift doesn't work and has  obviously  not worked for some time .The wooden decking from reception down to the restaurants and pool areas is in a poor state of repair and dangerous in places . At breakfast, there is often a lack of tables and a long queue for anything with eggs and coffee machines . The Barcelo Coconut island is in a wonderful location with a fantastic beach area ( the sea unfortunately did not look to clean ) and immaculately maintained grounds . The whole resort is kept spotlessly clean , and the food is good with a lot of choice,   However in its current form, it falls well short of its 5 star rating . As always, the thai staff / people were  wonderful,  cheerful , respectful , honest, and hardworking. If you want a quiet relaxing day / holiday by the pool or beach, I would avoid the Barcelo Coconut Island until the refurbishment work has been completed.  Read less

Nice stay overall but this is a good 4-Star hotel rather than a 5-star hotel. Breakfast was just ok with poor selection/quality. Our room was too normal and you could even hear the guests next door in the toilet. The jacuzzi needing renovation..

I stayed for 4 nights and had very mixed feelings about the resort. First the good parts. The resort itself is beautiful and is in a stunning location. The housekeeping staff were excellent and restocked the mini bar and cleaned the room on a daily basis to an excellent standard. The cocktails on offer were very tasty and the hotel offers a pick up and drop off service to and from the rooms and other locations around the resort as well as a 12 hour boat service to and from the mainland. Now for the parts which definitely could be improved. Granted I did arrive later than most, checking into around 19:30ish. I did not receive a welcome beverage upon check in and whilst I was checking in, the gentleman only clocked that I had the all inclusive package towards the end of the check in process which meant he had to go back and explain the all inclusive benefits. This is not the same check in process I saw other people receive. A similar issue at check out when I came to settle my final bill I asked if the 50% discount had been applied (as per the all inclusive package for items not with the red star). I was told that it had been. I asked the gentleman to double check as the bill didn’t look right, upon double checking he stated that I was correct and had to manually change the bill. I was not offered an invoice to state that I had paid the bill, I had to ask for this. He told me the bill still needed to be amended from there side and I stated that I wanted the invoice in case the hotel charged my credit card that was on file. He hand wrote on the invoice stating that I had paid. Beware the all inclusive package as it is definitely NOT all inclusive. I understand that resorts sometimes have specialty restaurants which come at an extra charge but I have never been told to look for the red stars on the menus which are the food and beverages included in the all inclusive package. This is not something that is explained when you book. On the website when you book all inclusive it states all food and drink are included. Some of the wait staff are very attentive but the majority are not, if you want another drink or food, 9 times out of 10 you would either need to get up and go to the bar yourself or flag the wait staff down. Which again is fine sometimes but it doesn’t scream 5* resort service. When I tryed to book an excursion I was told I had to come back in the morning which was fine as it was late and there would be 2 departures an 8:30ish and an 11:45ish. I got up early had breakfast hoping to get onto the 8:30ish. I went to the excursion desk at 8am and was told it was too late to get onto the 8:30 and when I asked the guy to please check and call them I was told no but I could go on the 11:45, which I declined and booked my own excursion through ‘get your guide’ instead. The drains in the room really smelled bad and there was a lot of construction going on around the hotel (main reception and one of the villas) which meant power tools could be heard all day around the resort, which ruins the overall atmosphere. Overall to me this is not a 5* resort, or at least not at this point in time. Read less
