The hotel

‘The Del’ as the Coronado is known as has been open for business since 1888 and is a designated National Historic Landmark! Indeed, it’s been the backdrop to many a Hollywood movie, including Some Like it Hot starring Marilyn Monroe. The last of California’s stately old seaside hotels, it is a monument to Victorian grandeur with virtually no two rooms alike and a sumptuous wood panelled lobby that has to be seen to be believed. Recent additions include Shore House at The Del, an elevated hotel experience in an extraordinary neighborhood of seaside villas. From an oceanfront pool that blends seamlessly into the horizon, to an inviting living room that flows effortlessly outdoors, Shore House offers an extraordinary sense of place, where family and friends form deep connections in a rare beachside setting. The Del's newest restaurant inside the beautifully restored Laundry building. Dine outside on the lawn and watch the action at the BBQ Pit or gather inside the historic brick building beneath vaulted ceilings and the Laundry's original conveyor system. Pull up a stool at the historic wooden bar from the 1880s for inventive cocktails, beer and wine.

We attended a holiday party at the hotel Del Coronado so we decided to spend the night there. this wasn’t our first time staying there. We ended there once before about eight years ago for the same reason, but this is the first time certain things came delight that I just did not expect a hotel of this caliber to be lacking. But first and foremost, it is a very interesting and beautiful hotel on a beautiful part of the San Diego Coast. The beaches are nice. The views are amazing and the history associated with this hotel make it a must visit for any first time visitor or even for San Diego local like us.. I was just surprised that there is no room service and that when you pick up your car from the valet you have no choice, but to go stand in line. There is no callout option.. last week but so many other hotels. It is way understaffed at the front desk. Expect weights for everything from getting a key replaced. Or calling for any type of information.. on the Saturday night of our event with the lobby completely packed with tourists and guests, I went to try to get a duplicate key for my wife. There were three desks one was the check-in desk second was the concierge desk and the third was like a tourist information desk. At approximately 9 PM on a Saturday with the lobby completely full of visitors there is nobody manning any of these desks. Eventually, alone, customer service person showed up at the front desk and I was able to get my duplicate key, but aside from its history and excellent placement. This is no more than a three star hotel. Read less

This was an amazing resort. Decorated for Christmas and every evening a special light show with snow at the end. The room was amazing with a view of the beach. The restaurant Series was wonderful. We had best night sleep with wonderful bedding and fluffy pillows.

Besides the golf course, Coronado was not an Emerald Isle and seemed rather fake. However, the hotel was charming and festive before Thanksgiving with Christmas trees, carols, and even a skating rink in the back below the bar. It’s also very noisy with bulldozers, construction, and a total remake. There were patrons mostly for the pizza and marketplace, although gelato never goes out of style (like coffee). Managed by the Hilton on Tijuana jurisdiction, the historic hotel is a National Heritage Site after the likes of shady Kate Morgan and President Taft stayed here. The Windsor “cottage” on site is the former commandant’s home until 1920 of the current Naval Amphibious Base Coronado (NAB); the beach behind runs toward Naval Outlying Landing Field, Imperial Beach (NOLF). A shuttle conveniently takes Hilton guests between the Coronado and the Convention Center/Hilton Bayfront. It runs every hour on the half hour in front at Glorietta Bay crossing. Its situation’s perfect even if the past and present isn’t! Read less

Amazing staff, super friendly and helpful! But most of all, is the closeness to the beach. If you crave beautiful sunsets or beach access this hotel is perfect for you. For how expensive it is, I think the rooms could have been overall “better” but the beach evens it out.

Price: The valet charges $45 for the first two hours with $15 off if you spend over $100, which you will. Once in the interior of the building you will be tansported to an earlier time when hotels were elegant destinations. Beatiful woodwork through out the building. After viewing the interior we made our way out the beach area and found a table overlooking the beach with all it's activities. It's a perfect spot for people viewing. We ordered cocktails and each of us (3 in our party) ordered from the sandwich menu and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Price: Sandwiches with fries for three $236 with tip. Is it worth a visit? Absolutely. Knowing it's pricey before you visit helps but it's worth every penny. We loved the experience. Enjoy! Read less
