The hotel

After a makeover in October 2023, the hotel re-opened as a spirited and luxury hotel, occupying a dream location overlooking a pristine stretch of beach washed by sparkling azure waters. It’s also home to one of the island’s largest swimming pools, take a dip or treat yourself to a fresh, low-fat ice cream packed with island fruits from the 'ici' vendors. You'll also find some quirky LUX* touches, such as their own blend of coffee roasted on site, a pop-up restaurant and Cinema Paradiso. LUX* Belle Mare offers a range of suites and private villas to tempt you, all beautifully designed. Upgrade to a Pool View Junior Suite overlooking the swimming pool or to a Wellness Junior Suite for wellness perks and spa discounts. Looking for a couples escape? The cocoon-like Ocean Suites are nice and private, or if you’re travelling with the children the Beach View Junior Suites are very spacious. It’s the little touches here that make all the difference, a British red phone box, for example, a novel way to call home! Exciting amenities include an impressive list of water sports with probably something new to try every day of your holiday. As for restaurants, you’ve several to choose from. MONDO specialises in worldwide cuisine, whilst at Amari by Vineet, you can enjoy Indian delights fit for a maharajah.

Where is it

In the seaside village of Belle Mare on the east coast of Mauritius. Transfer time from Mauritius International Airport: approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Please note that if taking a seat in coach this may be longer depending on how many hotel stops are en route.

Hotel information

174 suites and 12 villas facing the sea. All with air-conditioning, 55” Interactive TV, media system, telephone, complimentary WiFi access, mini-bar*, Café LUX* coffee maker, tea-making facilities, safe, hairdryer, iron and board, bathrobes and slippers. Junior Suites are beach hut-style suites, located on the ground-second floor, with 1 king-size bed and a sofa bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 teens or 2 children or 1 infant.

Board basis options

Half Board option: includes breakfast at Mondo, and dinner at either Mondo or Beach Rough. Amari by Vineet and Duck Laundry are not included in the meal plan, but there is a 30% reduction on food available for guests.

Full Board option: includes breakfast at Mondo, and lunch and dinner at either Mondo, Royce Street or Beach Rouge. Amari by Vineet and Duck Laundry are not included in the meal plan, but there is a 30% reduction on food available for guests.

All-Inclusive option: includes

- Breakfast at Mondo

- Lunch: in Mondo, Royce Street or Beach Rouge and for guests on excursions picnic basket (request to be placed at the reception 24-hours in advance)

- Dinner in Mondo, Royce Street or Beach Rouge, a la carte and buffet. (Amari by Vineet and Duck Laundry are not included in the meal plan, but there is a 30% reduction on food available for guests)

- Afternoon tea time, available at Cafe LUX*

- A wide selection of beverages (soft drinks, tea, coffee, beers, wines, juices, mineral water, cocktails and liquors) are available. Bar service “All inclusive” until 11:00pm

- Wellness (as per hotel schedule): Yoga & stretching classes, fitness centre, sauna, steam room, whirlpool and spa garden (mandatory reservation subject to availabilityat the Spa - adults only)

- Water sports (as per hotel schedule): Water skiing, glass bottom boat trips, snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaks, pedal boat, small catamaran, mini sailing as per weather and tide condition

- Land activities (as per hotel schedule): Unlimited access to our gym centre, floodlit tennis courts (rackets provided - tennis balls with a fee), table tennis, bocce balls, beach volley.

Please note: All-Inclusive is available from the time of arrival at the hotel to the time of departure. The hotel reserves the right to close up to two restaurants throughout the year.

LUX* Me Spa option: can be added to any board basis and is integrated approach to wellbeing, incorporating holistic and spa treatments. Please call for full details.

Room upgrades

Wellness Junior Suites include yoga mat and block, exercise cards, mini-bar stocked with healthy snacks*, a consultation with a Wellness Concierge, one in-room relaxing bath, sleep enhancement light, pillow menu, one plant-based smoothie per person per stay, two 45-minute Rejuvenation spa treatments (for a minimum 7 night stay, treatment to be taken between 9:00am-2:00pm), a 20% discount on LUX* ME products, a 20% discount on LUX* ME spa treatments, a 20% discount on Personal Training services, free use of Martone Cycles, one jog/walk session with a coach on the beach.) Rooms are ideal for couples or solo travellers with a love for wellness, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Pool View Junior Suites are conveniently located at the heart of the hotel facing the main pool, these suites are a great choice for families with younger children, with 1 king-size bed and a sofa bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults, or 2 adults and 2 teens or 2 children or 1 infant.


Beach View Junior Suites are beach hut-style suites located on the ground-second floor, sleeping maximum 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 teens, or 2 children or 1 infant.

LUX* Suites feature a swing bed overlooking the beach, boudoir bar with a beverage bar cart, and a spacious bathroom with an oversized bathtub, with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Ocean Suites are larger than Beach View Suites, with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

The Grand LUX* Suite features a dedicated lounge area, a dining space, partial sea views from a balcony and can sleep maximum 3 adults, or 2 adults and 2 teens or 2 children and 1 infant.

MONDO (all-day dining, flavours from around the world including French, Indian, Mauritius, Italian, and Asian). Amari by Vineet (Contemporary Indian Cuisine, open for dinner). Royce Street (Southeast Asian cuisine). Beach Rouge (beach club and restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine for lunch, dinner, cocktails and tapas). Duck Laundry (gastronomic Chinese cuisine, open for dinner). Maison LUX* (café and bar). Aperitivo Bar (booster shots and Spritz cocktails). The mixologist (skilled mixologists suggest an inventive cocktail list. The menu also offers mocktails, wines and craft beers). ICI (ice creams parlour).

This was our 5th stay at Lux Belle Mare, the last being in 2019 before COVID. The staff are undoubtedly the reason we return over and over again. They make you feel so welcome and remember us instantly every time, even after a 5 year gap!! A lot has changed since we were there last and if you were a returner you would notice the changes, however if this was your first visit you would find the Lux Belle Mare to be amazing so I would still recommend this hotel to anyone, especially families. It is much more family orientated now so there are lots of children, whereas previously there were only a few. If you do have children, you will love it here, the set up for young children is on another level!! There are some changes that have been made that would possibly put us off returning. All inclusive guests now only have Beach Rouge and the buffet restaurant included in their package, whereas previously Duck Laundry was also included. This is now an additional cost with a 30% discount, the same as Amari. I do not think this is good value when you are paying so much more for All inclusive. There is not enough choice in the Beach Rouge menu if you are there for 10 days, especially when you are eating there at lunch most days and in the evening (there is not much difference in the 2 menus). Mondo buffet is ok, but when booking a luxury 5 star hotel, you do want to be sat down ordering from an Al a carte menu. The new Chef ? Nancy, seemed to have lots of issues. When she was in Beach Rouge, there seemed to be lots of food going back. It was much calmer and staff appeared much happier when she was not in, she also could not hide her feelings when dealing with unhappy customers, her face showed her annoyance. We booked to celebrate my 50th birthday, which was a week before our travel and a note was added to our booking. This was not acknowledged, whereas previously this was and we were not initially welcomed as a returner. Although this changed when we saw the regular staff from previous visits. I did get the chance to speak to the manager (who has now left) Gerhardt, to give him my feedback and he did arrange a complimentary visit to Duck Laundry, however, I did not get the impression that he was interested in the slightest but this may well have been as he has now left as manager. The staff however, are what make Lux Belle Mare phenomenal. I have to mention Bilall in Maison Lux who is so lovely, Vijay, Nilesh, Nitin, Bhawoo in Mixologist bar who never let you sit without a drink, Ashveena in Mondo (who was the sweetest and bought my granddaughter a present) , Neha, Harrish and Kris in Beach Rouge whose service is impeccable, Roopesh, Subi, Vishal and all the staff in Amari (where the food is out of this world! and thank you for looking after us so well) Satish, lifeguard around the pool who showed us the turtle, and the lovely Elvis and Gopee at reception along with lovely Hema in the back office. All of these people make us still want to return, even though it was not as good as previous visits. They treat you as family and Lux really need to do everything that they can to hold on to these people. If i could, I would bring them all home with me. Thank you to each and every one of you for making our holiday so wonderful. The niggles I mention are small in comparison to what you deliver daily and I am hoping management can fix these, but you are the people that make this hotel one that is so special - the youngsters should be looking up to you all and learning as you are the best and they can be too (such as Nilesh, who is one of the youngsters but has clearly learnt from the best - Vijay) ! xx So in summary, this visit was still fabulous, it was not on the level as previous visits, but this is purely down to the changes made by management. If the menu's improve, choices improve (being able to book at no extra cost to Duck Laundry for AI) we will return (as long as the people mentioned are still around!!) Read less

But unfortunately there is one disappointment in this wonderful vacation. While making booking at the concierge with Mr Gopee, i was charged an additional Rs 300 compared to other clients who had the same booking. Absolutely a luxurious 5* hotel. From moment of arrival to being waved goodbye on departure, the Lux went beyond our imagination. The staff are very attentive, welcoming and friendly and try and assist as able. For those who don't speak French, they all spoke good English! The whole resort is very clean and well maintained. The rooms are spotless and housekeeping are amazing daily. The in room mini bar is amazing plus and lovely to have as an option. The resort is easy to get around with beautiful grounds and beach. It is more breezy on the east coast which can make the current stronger when swimming out to the coral - we were unlucky with the weather with several days leading to strong winds making swimming difficult and not able to snorkel but this is a tropical island coming into cyclone season. Either way the beach is beautiful and you can walk several km in either direction. concierge were brilliant at helping to arrange horse riding on the beach - again had to be cancelled one day due to the weather. The riders are very helpful and walk with the horses if you are a beginner. The food and options for food is amazing - there were plenty for gluten free which is unusual! The cakes and patisserie options were stunning. We ate both buffet for dinner and a la carte and both were excellent with something different each night we ate the buffet. Our thanks to Sharon as well for her amazing skills with chocolate! The chocolate is amazing here, much more creamy and chocolate taste rather than artificial. Lux tries to make as much local food as possible and the difference in taste and quality shows. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you to the Lux and we hope to return in the future. Read less
