Nov 25 – Dec 02/2024 we travelled to Cancun & stayed at the Moon Palace Resort at the Sunrise lobby. There are 3 separate lobbies to this huge spread-out resort: Sunrise, Nizuc & the Grand. We had previously stayed at the Moon Palace (the Grand lobby) in 2019 (pre-Covid). As we stepped off the shuttle bus, everyone still receives a hot small rolled towel to freshen up with & the women are still handed a carnation flower. Thoughtful attentive gestures that already made us feel very welcome after a long day of travel. We stayed in the Limon building that was attached to the lobby. This was a perfect location for us. It’s such a great idea that our all-inclusive wrist bracelet also incorporated the room key so we never had to worry about carrying a key for the room. We stayed on the second floor & had a nice view from our balcony overlooking the trolley waiting station. These trollies were constantly driving around to transport you around to the different lobbies, restaurants, pools, etc. There also is still a “lobby to lobby” full-sized air-conditioned bus that transported people from one lobby to another that came every few minutes – never a long wait although I think that may have been only at night? We also had use/access to the Nizuc lobby, amenities & restaurants. We travelled back & forth between the Sunrise & the Nizuc lobbies. There was a day pass that could be purchased to spend the day in the Grand section or its restaurants but we never did. Our room had a king-sized bed & a huge hot tub/jacuzzi close to the balcony sliding doors. The bathroom had the toilet & a large shower with a door to close for privacy. The bathroom sink was located just outside this area which meant while one person was showering, the other could be using the sink & mirror to get ready in the evening. Very convenient. There still is a hair dryer, a hair straightener & a curling iron available for use in the drawer by the sink. The room had a digital safe & the bar sized frig was stocked with: soft drinks, beers, water, juice packs. In the bar cupboard, there were 4 full sized bottles of alcohol: Tequila; Whiskey; Vodka; Gin. There was also a bottle of red wine & wine glasses. Wi-Fi was always readily available in the room. It was also quiet at night for sitting on the balcony or getting a restful sleep. Our lobby had interesting shops, restaurants & a well equipped gym. Everywhere we ate, the food/service was very good. We were never disappointed. Often, we walked down the cement beach walk overlooking the ocean to the Nizuc or back to the Sunrise. We played tennis at the well-maintained tennis courts at the Sunrise & now there are also pickleball courts. Note: the Nizuc still has tennis courts also. At the Sunrise there was a Flow Rider pool, mini-golf, bike rentals. Around the pools & the beach, there are lots of comfortable well-padded cloth chaises. There are so many pools to choose to sit at! There’s usually an umbrella & a small table between every 2 chaises. Towels are freely given out at the kiosks – no towel card required. The only problem with this, was some people would just leave their towels on the chaises although they were not returning so at times, it was difficult to ascertain whether or not the chaise was taken. This seemed to be a constant issue especially in the afternoons. In the mornings, it was easier to find free chaises especially as there are so many pools. The beach always had some seaweed on the shoreline but there were tractors continually cleaning up this debris. The ocean was always murky so snorkelling would not be an option here. There was a water slide at one of the Nizuc pools but it wasn’t ever opened. A Christmas wonderland was had set up for the Christmas season at the Sunrise resort. When we arrived in the early evening from the airport & were approaching the Sunrise lobby, we could see a special big Christmas area lit up. This huge Christmas wonderland was set up with lots of lights, a huge lit Christmas tree, big candy canes & wrapped presents, etc. With all the lights, this looked so “magical”. Its really for the kids but even us adults enjoyed it! After dinner we often wandered outside to visit Christmas wonderland again, especially since it was all lit up. We didn’t see Santa but elves & the Grinch were there! There was a special slide for the kids. There were various open “rooms” set up with Christmas themes that we took photos in. Inside an open-air tent area, there were desserts set up, an ice cream station, a churro station (being freshly made), a doughnut wall -these were edible & beautifully decorated with Christmas themes & a bar for the adults. We didn’t try anything just looked in awe! What a huge success this was for kids & adults! This made for a very memorable stay! All staff work very hard to ensure you have a wonderful vacation & we were happy that its still has such high standards as we remembered. Thanks for a great stay at this impressive resort which we look forward to returning in the future. Read less

We have the best vacations here. The place is beautiful, the meals are outstanding and the service is exceptional. On our most recent trip we were delighted to meet Luisa who works at Sunrise in activities. We met her first at the mini putt and she was so funny and friendly. We ran into her later during our stay at Wired arcade too and she gave us some great information on some concerts and events in the area and on the property. Our housekeeper in the Coral building was Ezekiel. He was so friendly, thorough and professional. He always checked in with us when we passed in the hall to see if everything was okay. He also found a small earring I lost on my first night after unpacking. The earrings were not expensive but have sentimental value and I searched high and low on hand and knee to find it without success immediately after realizing it was missing After Ezekials first visit to tend our room he found it while cleaning and I was thrilled walk in to find it sitting on one of the nightstands. I’ve never gone to a resort where the staff so consistently deliver such professional and friendly service. It’s one of the reasons we keep coming back. It was a pleasure to meet you Luisa and Ezekiel. My husband and I thank you both for making our stay this time so wonderful. Read less

(Sunrise) Definitely did not live up to the hype. The resort is so big that being able to walk and enjoy the atmosphere and strolling the grounds is not possible and really do have to flag golf carts down which are hit or miss to find. The room was so out dated and dirty feeling. We were there for a wedding and out of 40 rooms two people only got king beds even though we all reserved those almost a year ago. The resort acted like whatever no big deal, they could have acknowledged and offered something nice. Then there is so much construction for putting up stages for concerts soon that if you ordered an ocean view room you have a stage and very loud construction starting at 6am. The food was whatever, I don’t expect the best food at all inclusive but they one was supposed to have amazing food and it was hit or miss. Room service was horrible other than breakfast. My favorite was poolside tacos and ceviche. The drinks were good but very basic. Didn’t have any craft like cocktails. Definitely had to specifically ask for what alcohol you wanted. Staff and bartenders were decent. From experience at other resorts they really didn’t interact and have fun with us like I’m used to at other resorts. For the money I don’t think this place is worth it, yes there is a ton for kids but so do a lot of other resorts that are nicer and cheaper. The beach they kept clean but it’s not the pretty blue water but was still nice to lay out on until they decided they were going to move out all the lounge chairs which was weird but also our last day so wasn’t worth questioning.
