The hotel

Part of the Outrigger family, this is a premier hotel with well-equipped, spacious guest rooms ensuring a comfortable holiday base. The location is fantastic too, directly overlooking beautiful Waikiki Beach and just a stone's throw from shops, bars and restaurants. Even people who aren't staying here tend to wander into the lobby as it's filled with rare and historic Hawaiian artefacts, including a century-old koa canoe! The Hula Grill Waikiki is another local attraction, serving scrumptious breakfasts and romantic dinners beside the ocean. Duke's Waikiki is also right on the beach and perfect for an evening meal, complete with regular live music and hula performances. The swimming pool is beachside so you can enjoy the views of the sparkling blue waters, wherever you choose to set up camp for the day.

We stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki beach resort over the Thanksgiving break 2024. It was a lovely hotel, definitely older (mildew/mold in the bathrooms) but still a lovely place none the less. One concern we have is that upon check in the agent mentioned we were Expedia gold members which qualified us for a $100 credit towards any restaurant at the hotel, an upgrade at check in which isn't necessary as all of our rooms are amazing, and early checkout if available and you will want to check on that closer to leaving. We got our keys and were on our way. The day before checkout we stopped by the lobby to ask about a late checkout as our shuttle would not be coming until 6 pm. The agent helping us said "let me look...ok yes yes here are new keys for you, they will work until 6pm tomorrow. Have a great day". My husband and I both said to each other..."wow that was so easy and how nice that they are fine with us staying until 6 pm". Then we got the bill and noticed a charge for $150 that said upgrade at check in. Before we left I stopped by the lobby again and to our surprise it was the same agent that gave us the late check out and keys. I pointed out the charge and asked what that was and she said "Ya, late check out...I helped you yesterday, remember?" Yes I do remember...you never said anything about the fee for checking out late... "Yes, I did, I tell you it was $20 a hour, I did, I did..." THE END...I show her the paper they gave me at check-in that mentioned the late checkout upon availability and she just scoffed, she would no longer talk, I paid it because what else can we do? She didn't say a single thing about any charge for late checkout and had we known we would have sat at the bar or at the beach and just brought our luggage. Super rude agent and very short with us as we were just asking what it was and why she hadn't said anything about that. I did email the hotel to let them know they should definitely mention this charge before giving it to people (I have given it a few weeks before writing this review) and I have had NO correspondence from them. Aside from that the hotel is lovely, its older but still functioning well. It is in the heart of shopping, so if you like to shop on vacation, this is your place. Reminded me of Las Vegas type busy... Very small pool with maybe 20-30 lounge chairs all super close together. If you didnt have one claimed by 8 am when the pool opened you were not getting one. We mostly sat in a little area just below the pool deck but before the beach that had a few loungers, it was fine, you could see everything you needed to or wanted to. If you proffered to sit on the beach they offered you two chairs and an umbrella for $100 A DAY. That didnt mean you had a great view though because they stack them in front of one another. I noticed a lot of people had gone to ABC stores and purchased their own mini chairs and umbrella (which is less than $100, and you could use it the whole time). I would also recommend purchasing a pool/beach float at ABC, they were super cheap and had an option to purchase them already inflated. We ate at the restaurants on site daily...enjoyed Hulas grill for breakfast and dinner and Dukes for breakfast buffet and thanksgiving dinner, it was delicious. My main advice would be that if you are a person looking for a quiet beach getaway or enjoys lounging at the pool, this is not the place for you. It is a busy, generally hopping place with people all over, music in the evening (I wish it was during the day too). I love watching the sunsets...amazing, you cant beat them! Read less

My room was on the 14th floor with a balcony and a side view of the ocean. I stayed 3 nights at the end of 17 days in Hawaii. We ate at Duke's, chilled at the pool and beach, and liked everything about this hotel. I recall self-serve laundry facilities, a very useful perk.

Awesome Location! On the White sandy Beach, view of Diamond Head, just a few steps to restaurants and shopping, large rooms with everything you need. Professional and friendly staff and housekeepers. Duke’s and Hula Grill restaurant onsite with great food and live music on certain days. I highly recommend this hotel,
