The hotel

Nestled on the beautiful beach of Flic en Flac and surrounded by landscaped tropical gardens, this relaxed resort has a welcoming Mauritian atmosphere. The outlook across the lagoon and the bay of Tamarin, with Le Morne Mountain in the distance, is impressive. Being on the west coast of Mauritius, you'll also be spoilt by amazing sunsets. The beach here is bounded by two reefs, an inner one that gives the hotel's swimming beach privacy and an outer reef where there’s a selection of complimentary water sports on offer. Enjoy the translucent, calm lagoon and keep a watch from the terrace for the dolphins that come into the bay. When it comes to dining, there's the main Tamarind Terrace restaurant, the intimate Pink Peppercorn on the beach terrace, and Spices, with its refined indoor dining room or more casual outdoor terrace. It's clear to see why this resort has a high volume of repeat guests.

I don’t even know where to begin. It’s been the most perfect two weeks on holiday I’ve ever had! The rooms are spacious, clean, tidy and beautifully furnished. The bed is big and comfortable and you get room service twice a day with small chocolates and a nice quote at the end of the day. The view from the balcony is just stunning! On the third floor the view is a little more blocked by the palm leaves but that didn’t bother us that much. You’ll get to see the prettiest sunsets here as well! Everyday there’s a different buffet which we liked a lot! The only buffet we didn’t enjoy as much was their fisherman’s buffet but even if you aren’t very much into seafood you’ll find plenty to eat. Yes the prices for drinks and everything else isn’t on the cheap side it’s still ok. The gym is well equipped and the spa area is pleasant as well. Although the infinity pool isn’t very deep it is pretty big and the view from the edge welcomes to take some moments to relax. The staff is overall very friendly and nice! Especially Ruddy from the Dolphin Bar / Pool was just amazing! It took us by surprise how amazing the overall service was beginning at the concierge, to the front desk ladies, the waiters and cooks, everyone was so lovely and courteous. Our cleaning lady Claudia did an amazing job and had an eye for the smallest detail. A big plus for this hotel is the included water activities. They were fun and we unfortunately didn’t have time to do everything. The view over the turquoise sea to the mountains and Le Morne is just wonderful! Unfortunately the reef here isn’t the prettiest but you can go on a snorkelling trip to a better reef. We especially booked this hotel because we wanted something calm and relaxing and we definitely chose the right one! There are no loud parties, no loud music or anything. In the evening there is live music or a DJ playing very nice music but not too loud or very long into the night. If you considered visiting you should keep in mind that you can’t really walk to flic en flac because it is at the far end of the road so you need a rental car or go by taxi etc. But if you want to explore the island this area is pretty good because you can reach everything in about an hour or less. At the moment there is construction going on next to the hotel but we didn’t really hear any noise whilst our stay. We had some very small improvement ideas that we already discussed with the staff like the device that’s supposed to scare the birds away from the buffet that makes a really loud beeping noise (most people especially older people can’t hear the frequency but I could and it it drove us crazy) and that sometimes sunbeds are reserved over multiple hours with nobody there so no more sunbed is available and staff don’t do anything about it (there is a hotel rule that prohibits the reservation of sunbeds with a towel or your personal stuff) or the line in the middle of the pool that has to get a repair. All in all we will be coming back someday in the future and can recommend this hotel with our whole hearts! Read less

We planned our special day almost a year in advance with the help and support of Laurent, the hotel manager, who did a magnificent job at executing our wedding. After lots of back and forth communication, he really impressed us with the end result from the set up of the event to the timing of the activities. We would also like thank all the staff that helped and served us during our wedding. The service was impeccable, as well as the chef and his team who made a delicious and beautiful menu for us and our guests. We are grateful for everyone at Sands who made our wedding the most beautiful we could imagine by going beyond our expectations! Read less

Excellent for couples wanting a quiet stay. We had 4 nights and wished it was longer. We got our toom upgraded to the only double balcony suite directly over looking the beach, it was fantastic. The resort is small, beautifully run, staff are the best so attentive, cleanliness is spot on. You would be hard pushed to find a grumble from anyone. … Read more

Would recommend this lovely hotel to any couple, over and above all the high end hotels on Mauritius, even better than hotels in Le Morne. Read less

Wonderful staff, great hotel, beautiful private beach and great value. Have just come back from Mauritius having spent 10 nights at the Sands Suite Resort and Spa. The hotel cost us £320 a night for 3 people at half board. First of all big thanks to all the staff at the hotel always pleasant and welcoming especially big thanks to Ruddy from the pool, Kushi from reception, Nalindee and her fellow chefs on breakfast duty, Jonathan and his sidekick who did Aqua Aerobics. The hotel rooms are spacious, clean and the TV has good movies on the M channels, pool is only one depth of 1.20M. Enjoyed our 2 massages at the SPA and thank you to the wonderful staff there. Negatives - The birds mainly sparrows (thankfully no seagulls) pecking away at the food whilst you eat not sure what can be done about that they did start covering the food more. The car park has an open sewer running across it, grateful the smell does not reach the hotel. With half board you get breakfast and buffet which is different theme every night (Indian, Mauritian, Fish, Tex-Mex, BBQ, Mediterranean, Italian) I wasnt a big fan and the 2 other restaurants did not offer much variety very small limited menu and you need to book 24 hours in advance and you get a selected menu and 1600 rupees against the cost of the meal. Whilst I was in Mauritius did go to Lux Belle Mare if that is in your budget go for it, amazing hotel but twice the price of Sands. Read less
