The hotel

Built in the style of an historic sugar plantation, Sugar Beach is a world-class resort set in 30 acres of tropical gardens.  If you're not satisfied with just the facilities the hotel has to offer (although we know you will be!), this hotel also has preferred access to Ile aux Cerfs with it's tranquil beach, wide offering of water sports, additional dining options and an 18-hole golf course for the sports enthusiasts. The hotel itself creates a romantic setting with it's idyllic beaches and gourmet dining, but if you do have the kids in tow, the Sun Kids Club has daily itineraries to ensure they have their own adventure; giving you time to relax at the chic Buddha Beach Bar with a cocktail in hand.

Where is it

On the west coast of Mauritius, overlooking a glorious stretch of white sandy beach and coral reef. Transfer time from Mauritius International Airport: Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Please note that if taking a seat in coach this may be longer depending on how many hotel stops are en route.

Hotel information

238 elegant rooms and suites, all with a private balcony with views of the gardens and the ocean or on the ground floor its own fully furnished private patio. All rooms include 40inch LCD flat-screen TV, complimentary WiFi, air conditioning, electronic safe, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, fully stocked mini bar, bathrobe and slippers. Deluxe Sea View Rooms are located on the first and second floor in the gardens, with a private balcony featuring ocean views and either 1 king-size or 2 twin beds; sleeping maximum 3 people.

Board basis options

Half Board option: breakfast and dinner at Le Patio. Buddha-Bar Beach and Citronella’s Beach Lounge Restaurant are available for dinner. Please note a supplement will apply for shellfish dishes at all restaurants and reservations are required for dinner at Buddha-Bar Beach. Free green fees and return land shuttle at Tamarina Golf Club. Free green fees at Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club (excluding land transfer). Premium Sea View rooms offer the same features as the Deluxe rooms, but are larger in size and sleep maximum 4 people. 

Deluxe Beach Front rooms have direct beach access from the private balcony, and spectacular sea views. These rooms have either 1 king-size, 2 queen-size or 2 twin beds, sleeping maximum 3 people.

Family Rooms feature interconnecting rooms with separate bathrooms and either a terrace or balcony. The first bedroom has 1 king-size bed and the other two twin-size beds, sleeps a maximum of 2 adults and 3 children.

Premium Beach Front rooms offer the same features as the Deluxe rooms, but are larger in size and sleep maximum 4 people. 

Premium Suites are deluxe ground floor rooms that include a king size bed as well as a double sofa bed in the lounge that can unfold into two twin beds. These rooms consist of a bedroom, a bathroom with separate shower, two separate toilets, and a stand-alone bath tub. These rooms come with a garden or sea view including a spacious private terrace and sleep maximum 4 people. 

Executive Beach Front Suites are premium ground floor suites that have direct beach access from the private terrace. These rooms consist of one bedroom having a king size bed and a lounge, sleeping maximum 2 people.  

 

Free shuttles are included to and from Sugar Beach to reach Tamarina Golf Club as well as free boat shuttles to and from Pointe Maurice jetty to access Ile aux Cerf's Golf Club.

Le Patio (buffet-style breakfast and dinner restaurant, a la carte lunch, International dishes). Citronella’s Beach Lounge Restaurant (beach restaurant open daily for lunch and dinner). Buddha-Bar Beach (beachfront restaurant and bar open for dinner daily and lunch on Fridays and Saturdays). Le Patio Bar. Access to the restaurants, bars and facilities at La Pirogue next door.

My fiancée and I booked Sugar Beach for our wedding in October 2024 and we are so glad we did. From the moment of arrival to our departure, we were made to feel like special guests. On the day of our arrival, We were personally shown to our room by one of the of the reception staff and were delighted with our home for the next 10 nights. On our first visit to the restaurant, we were greeted by Vikram who showed us around the restaurant before seating us. His service never faltered throughout our stay and his personal touch made us feel very special. A lovely man and a credit to Sugar Beach. As mentioned, our wedding was booked for the 25/10/24 and Nadia, our wedding coordinator, looked after everything. She was so friendly, relaxed and professional and nothing was a problem for her in arranging our special day. On the days leading up to our wedding, we relaxed in the most beautiful place, enjoying the stunning grounds of the hotel, the fantastic food and drinks and the attention of the dedicated staff. Sadul, one of the pool bar staff was another lovely man who we enjoyed speaking to every day. He looked after us so well. The day of our wedding. WOW! Nadia and the other staff members made our day absolutely perfect and a day we will never forget. From the ceremony to our private meal on the beach, everything was simply perfect. Again, this was down the lovely staff did everything they could to make our day special. Food at the hotel was amazing with a vast choice of dishes to choose from. Everything was freshly cooked and the Catering staff clearly took pride in the food they served. Sadly, we witnessed some guests who found fault with the service of some restaurant staff but this was totally unfounded and nothing more than the rudeness of the guests themselves. We particularly enjoyed the Buddha Beach Bar and restaurant. Fantastic food and drinks and again, great service from staff, especially Cedric, Nelson and Jamal. This is a long review yet I don’t think does justice to the experience we had. I have mentioned some staff personally however, all staff from gardeners to cleaners should be praised for their hard work. I can’t wait to return! Read less

I would like to mention Vanessa from Sun life, she has been very helpful and attentive to us throughout the year.Recently I also have been having yoga and pilatus classes on the jetty at La Pirogue and this proves to be a very relaxing experience as well.
