The Coral at Atlantis

Virgin rating

The hotel

Luxury in the Bahamas needn’t be off-limit to families. Built to bring all generations together, The Coral at Atlantis Paradise Island has re-opened after being re-designed and re-imagined with features, facilities, and fun for every age and stage of your crew. As well as the revamped rooms, with their balconies and tropical styling, and a sleek pool that’s more Miami than castaway island, The Coral adds decadent family touches like lollies at the swim-up bar and a gelateria in the lobby. Its setting on the island adds to the child-friendly feel, with Bahamian white sand beaches and Marina Village handily close. And you get access-all-areas to all the island’s dining venues and attractions, giving you something to thrill each member of your family — whether that’s plunging past shark-filled waters down the near-vertical Leap of Faith or splashing about in the Mayan-themed children’s water playground.

If you’re looking for modern, clean amenities and decent service…stay at Baja Mar, SLS, or somewhere newer. The hallways here smell horrible (damp/musty/wet), the rooms are in dire need of some maintenance, many of the advertised attractions and food options are closed down, the street in front is under construction creating a transportation nightmare, and that is just the beginning. I spent over 10 grand here over the last week and I’m not allow to bring a beach towel to my room, lol. Very disappointed with the quality of this property and the many disjointed rules and regulations. We experienced several kind and genuine employees here but it falls very short of its advertised standards. As an example, their transportation partner is majestic tours. Have a look at their reviews and you’ll start to get a sense of the poor management here. Spend your money elsewhere if you want to leave the Bahamas happy and satisfied. Read less

My daughter was born 12.12.12 and turn 12 this year. Little did I know picking Bahamas to celebrate was gonna be a time of her life. The manager was sure to implement an unforgettable birthday room to make me look like the best mom in the world. My trip was perfectly unforgettable 😭

We arrived and checked in only to discover the lift we needed to use to reach our room on the 5th floor was out of order and they had no idea how long it would be until it was working. As we were only staying for 2 nights we wanted to get on with our stay and I was really unimpressed by the way this was handled by the front desk. The lady who seemed to be in charge basically telling me she couldn’t do anything and getting quite irritated when I said that I was not happy to wait to check in or go to another room until our room was ready. In the end we were offered a different room in the Lagoon Wing - why this wasn’t immediately done I have no idea but walking up 5 flights of stairs to check our original room and then comparing it to the one we were being offered satisfied me that it was a lovely room and so we got on and unpacked and started the stay. As a special treat I had booked a dolphin experience. Andre was fantastic and made it real fun. The photographer who took photos looked as though he hated his job, never once uttered a word to any one of us or engaged with us and looked as miserable as anything. To then find that on top of an experience that cost so much, they wanted $33 for ONE 6x8 print was beyond unbelievable! In general, I found the staff at this resort amongst the rudest I have come across in all my travels. The only exceptions were the lady working on the Valet desk when we checked in, the lovely housekeepers who were so friendly (and Andre previously mentioned along with the reception staff at Dolphin Cay) along with the young receptionist on duty at 4pm on Wednesday 11th when we checked in. Everyone else seemed to act as though they were doing us a favour in being there. You would say a cheery hello and get nothing back and quite often the staff looked genuinely unhappy to be there. The coffee machine at the breakfast place we used was broken for 2 days, staff checking hotel keys at certain points were rude and officious. What was good about the place is that the aquarium is like nothing I have ever seen before and is huge and we had a really lovely early morning walk on the beach near the resort. It is a sprawling place and it takes well over 10 minutes to get from one side of the property to the other side and it’s not always easy to navigate. When we checked out and were asked if we had enjoyed our stay, I outlined the issues we had had and they were taken seriously and an adjustment to the bill was made. I wouldn’t rush back here and I do not feel I got good value for money. The part of the resort where we stayed was ‘tired’ and in need of some upkeep and maintenance and whilst the dolphin experience was fantastic it was massively over priced for what you get. Read less
