Excalibur

The Strip, Las Vegas

Star rating

The hotel

This good value on-strip casino hotel boasts an enormous pool area and is home to the must-see Tournament of Kings dinner show, complete with knights on horseback, jousting, pyrotechnics and Merlin himself. Las Vegas’s take on old England, the Excalibur would surprise the Knights of the Round Table. But that’s where it leaves England behind and takes on the world. There’s the all-American casino (with 100,000 sq ft of gaming), games arcade, and branch of Johnny Rockets’ famous hamburger chain. There’s Italy, Mexico and Asia (and a bit more America) in its casual restaurants and food court. And there’s Australia in its ‘Thunder from Down Under’ adult show and Australian Bee Gees tribute concert.

Built in 1990, this is my first stay here in over 20 years. It has not changed too much other than more modern machines. Good things: Location, close to the airport and on the strip Good value Clean, spacious rooms Pool was huge, not too busy Fitness centre was good and never too busy Bad things: Needs new windows, very noisy at night Bars and restaurants are expensive (but that is Vegas all over) Check in was VERY slow, baggage drop just as bad. More staff needed Resort fee is a con, you have to pay it, why not just add to the price of the room Overall, still a great hotel. NB: If you ware planning to use the regular Deuce bus, be aware that due tot he demolition of the Tropicana, the nearest stop to head down the strip is now in front of MGM (short walk) Read less

I stayed for a work conference, the bed was very comfortable however the room wasn't clean when I arrived with dusty furniture and a bottle cap from the previous guest on the floor. I left it on the floor and it took 3 room cleans before they spotted it and removed it. AC unit was very noisy and didn't really cool down the room. Staff were… Read more

Excalibur feels like a relic of the 1990s. What was once a novelty, nows seems sorely out of date. This hotel and casino feel separate and distant from the energy on the Strip further north. In front of places like Cosmopolitan, Bellagio, Paris, and the Venetian, people are walking on the street, sitting at bars and restaurants with a view of the strip, and there is much more of a buzz inside the casinos, bars, and restaurants. Excalibur, on the other hand, feels like a dark dungeon that one is trapped inside. Read less

The buffet was horrible and made two of us sick after spending $71. Our room was dirty when we checked in. We were there 7 days and I never saw anybody winning big. Very disappointing. Our phone in our room did not work, we had a partial rule of toilet paper and Housekeeping did not show up for 2 days so we had no clean towels. It was convenient… Read more

I booked a non-smoking room but was immediately hit with a strong smoke smell upon entering. The room reeked like someone had smoked in it regularly, which was unacceptable. The A/C was broken — not only parts were literally falling off, and the unit looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. Dust, grime, and dirt were everywhere. I’ve stayed in… Read more
I booked a non-smoking room but was immediately hit with a strong smoke smell upon entering. The room reeked like someone had smoked in it regularly, which was unacceptable. The A/C was broken — not only parts were literally falling off, and the unit looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. Dust, grime, and dirt were everywhere. I’ve stayed in Vegas hotels before, but this one was beyond imagination in terms of cleanliness and maintenance. On top of that, the room was incredibly outdated. There weren’t even any USB outlets available, which is a basic expectation these days. When I asked the front desk if there was an alternative, they simply shrugged it off and told me to check the nearby shop. Seriously? Definitely not worth the price, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here under any circumstances. Read less
