Image of the Tripadvisor rating Old and grand hotel in need of some upgrades. Great staff though!

The hotel lobby was beautiful and grand. The staff was friendly and helpful. The housekeeping staff was very pleasant and on top of things. The hallways and the room were pretty outdated. The room itself was clean, and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. However, the windows were drafty with quite a bit of cold air coming in (we actually sat our packaged drinks next to the window to keep them cold). The bathroom was in real need of a renovation. The toilet was old industrial, the sink was a shallow pedestal, and the shower was difficult, the water randomly alternated between very hot and very cold. Our view wasn't good at all, but that's not unusual for NYC and not the hotel's fault. We asked and offered to pay for a better view, but no rooms were available. Read less

First of all the staff is amazing and they are definitely doing their best to keep up. We stayed here because it was within walking distance to Madison Square Garden. We booked two rooms. First of all the staff is amazing and they are definitely doing their best to keep up. We stayed here because it was within walking distance to Madison Square Garden. We booked two rooms. One for the adults and one for the grown kids. The kids room was great HOWEVER: We paid for an upgraded room and when we arrived at 3 am to check in, the room was still available for us. However at 430 am, this horrible noise kept happening over and over that kept us from sleeping more than 2 hours. At first we thought we were under a restaurant and they were moving chairs around. Then we thought maybe drilling. After about 3 trips down to the lobby they finally sent someone up to listen and it turned out it was the elevator. They said they knew there was a problem and trying to find a way to fix it but havent had any luck yet. Meanwhile they are sticking guests in rooms next to the elevator. Next we were moved to room number two. Went from the biggest room in the hotel to what appeared to be the smallest. Tiny room with 1 double bed for two people. This wasnt going to work so we asked to be moved again. Finally moved into the third room but this room had one of the beds broken whereas you only had about 3 feet of bed from left to right to sleep in. We finally gave up and stayed in this room. While were in this room they decided to book someone else in this room and gave them a key. We were in our room when a stranger came to open a door. We were shocked and so was the stranger ( guy was super nice, pilot). We paid about $400 extra for the upgraded room. Hotel returned this money back to us but did not offer anything on top of to really make up for the experience we had. The location is great however the hotel is in some serious need of upgrades. God help whoever stays in the room with the messed up mattress. Read less

The hotel undoubtedly benefits from the Art Deco design but was pretty shocked to be charged for luggage storage and am extra £36 was taken out for resort fees. Like others have mentioned, all for amenities I didn't and had no interest in using. So my one night stay ended up costing 25% more than expected. Added to that the ridiculous 15… Read more

Like others have mentioned, all for amenities I didn't and had no interest in using. So my one night stay ended up costing 25% more than expected. Added to that the ridiculous 15 minute wait at check in when only about 5 groups were in front of us. At check out there was another queue just to hand over the key card. Totally unnecessary as there's no mini bar to incur extra costs Sadly wouldn't recommend. Read less

Overall it was a nice hotel and centrally located. Wish the gym fees and ammenities fees were charged to people who actually use the facilities. I didn't use them and still had to pay them. I feel like that is theft and unfair. Due to that I prob won't recommend or stay here again.
